don't really really picking up the fullov'em self vibe from this guy, but honestly even if i did, he's pretty much earned it in my book. the man is an ICON!

The fit was pitched because the runners participating had agreed to finish the race all at once due to the conditions. The 'Irish guy' sprinted ahead to finish first....I think I'd be a bit pissed too.

Why has Dean never done an ironman triathlon ?

DK trains for endurance, not speed. Elite marathoners train for speed. They pick out 1 or 2 events a yr & train to peak to win. Training like DK would increase their endurance but decrease speed, no point in that if you want to win gold. Ultras and marathoning are 2 different disciplines, they can't be compared. The results you get depend on how you train. Thats why his comment is misleading. I enjoyed both DK's books. He is a great promoter of running. Good on him.

Someone should let Dean know about Yukon Arctic 430, I don't think an american has finished it yet.

how do you reach that conclusion? he was willing to admit that he does fail to finish at times and is sort of self depricating

Actually I've seen marathoners run slower than him, he has a good rate for distance. Is he a good sprinter? Unlikely, but I bet he has a great marathon time.
@Rev0UK116 жыл бұрын
k he can run for a while but him vs say the world record holder for the fastest marathon atm.....i don't think he'd be close

DK is more about what the human body can do when it's pushed to its limits, rather than what it could of done or worry about the Kenyan having a faster marathon time or a 5k time 10k etc. Now if you can run all the runs that he has done and finish with a faster time then has in all of them by all means bash at the guy all you want. At least then you have some kind of foundation to criticise.

DK misses the point on recovery. Elite marathoners do 2 a year because they sprint them & try to win. They need a training program with speed sessions, not long marathon distances every day. They race a mara at 3 min/km pace. Thats 30min/10kms, or 18 secs for every 100m for the entire 26 miles / 42km. They finish around 2h 06m. 1 hour faster than DK. In his 50/50, his last mara was his fastest. I'm sure he could have done his 51st mara the next day but doubt he would have gone faster.

Runners as a rule know nothing about strength or size, but I wont hold it against them. Cyclist have big legs? There's an example. That said, 300miles is huge, even for walking.
