If you go into the car park on the gresford industrial estate there is a stone obelisk which marks the location of the martin shaft, 500 yds South is the location of the dennis shaft, but you have to ask the factory permission to acces it

The memorial is not on the site of the pit, the actual pit , martin and dennis shaft are 500 yds away on the other side of the road

What a terrible tragedy. :( These are two of my most feared ways of dying (buried under the earth or getting stuck and burned) together. Unrelated to this topic: Would you consider making some kind of introductory video about yourself and your work? I am very interested in how and why you were interested in archeology in general and this special field (death and burial) in particular. Have you always had a certain morbid fascination or have you developed it "on the go" while researching other topics?

Gresford Colliery reopened after the disaster in January 1936. The Colliery finally closed on 10th November 1973.
