The Grimsmo Saga Pen: A Quick Shabazz Review

Today, we're going to take a look at the Grimsmo Knives Saga Pen, checking out one of the earliest publicly available pens, #0006. In short, although it's a fine pen with a unique and excellent clicking action, it's very pricy and with some early production hiccups. But with some minor tweaks, no doubt this Saga could be long and interesting.

This is a very cool pen mechanism. Just got my first today (ahem... note use of word "first"). Nick's review spot-on... and my one emphasized nitpick is the junction between barrel & tip. In Sept 2021, they are still "emphasizing" this junction with the two milled perimeter grooves. Otherwise, a lot to dig about this pen. (they fixed the rattle, and offer many without the norseman on the tip... one on the clip is perfect.)

the clicker mechanism is likely the same as a quick detach mechanism for an air compressor. it's a pretty brilliant solution really

They have no logo tips now, and yeah the price point is rough but when you compare the detail to one of the other machined titanium pens out there going from 100 to 200 bucks they really are a step above.

Current cost of machining time in CA. is $95.00 per hour. Materials, plus time, plus r and D costs, plus profit, $300.00 ain't to far off! Many fine unusual points! I am falling for this pen, crap will have to sell my Ti Hinderer!

Can you please show it test it with single fingure click? Pen designs should cater to functionality and basically be operable with sungle finger click. I really like the pen and big fan of grismos but not seeing anyone clicking out with single finger click just curious.

I am obsessed with these pens. I definitely agree that the price is not good. I’ve gotten a couple through some trades and actually purchased one too. Unlike you, I prefer the logo tip. To me, it feels unfinished with no logo. They don’t seem to be making too many with the logo tip anymore, So maybe they heard you, Nick! Great review. I’d love to hear what you think about their newer productions of this pen.

Hard to tell without using the "clicky" mechanism but I hope that it's really good in a tactile way & long lived because otherwise the pen does look like a tire gauge with a chess piece on top. And the OTT branding reminds how someone at Gucci & Guess must laugh when people buy their mega expensive T-shirts, whose main feature is a massive brand name plastered over the new owners bust. Having people pay to advertise your brand - what a brilliant (idea) man!!

Well even though you didn't ask and really don't care, my very favorite pen is the BIC Medium 10mm Thats the plain jane plastic pen, the one with the clear plastic hexagon tube with a loose plastic cap. The one most people used in school. Yeah that one, I got a minimalist streak. Now you know my Fvorite pen.....your welcome.

I was also thinking the overused logos were an effort to creatively provide some grip. Personally, I consider this way over-priced. However, when I saw the video notifications for the pen builds on the Grimsmo channel I didn't watch them because I figured the end product would be a $400 'biro'. I wasn't too far off I suppose. Having said that, the lads need to do some serious revisions of this pen to make it worth $240. At the moment, it's a $50 pen at best. Sorry guys, but there are a lot of design flaws in this product. I hope the crew improve the thing (and I hope they offer early adopters a free replacement or at least a heavy discount on an upgraded version).

It's not hard to design a more interesting pen than this. I said I could, not that I will. They could have easily designed it so that it had a raised milled section towards the front that has a texture on it. Actually they could have done any number of things to increase the presentation on this instead of just cutting what is the equivalent of a titanium straw and making it into a pen.

$250? , that Grimsmo tax is out of control. Urbansurvivalgears ti-scribe is a fantastic pen, and only $80 in Ti, and cheaper in copper and brass. The Grimsmos just charge too much for their wares, that is my opinion.

Nick, it is ugly. A tire pressure gauge has better aesthetics. The checkering and the logo are not crisp. My Pilot G-2 has much more hand friendliness. The Grimsmos need a designer.

@@BradGryphonn Don't get me wrong but it doesn't matter if it's No6 or No600000. If you're selling the product it should be at a good completed level. I feel the same about early access in video gaming and software if your product is being sold the only reason I should buy it is because I'm happy with the state it's in right at the instant I bought it. In fact this is worse than software because at least they send you updates for software if this pen sucks it's never going to not suck the state it's at is the state it's going to remain in forever. Sure you could flip it and try to buy a new version later but you're just passing the buck on the bad one to some other rube at that point. And this is not an attractive pen as is imo. The entirety of it feels like a pretty simple cheapo pen you'd grab at a store except for the deployment mechanism which is cool but you can't charge triple what every other titanium pen is worth for that and yes maybe that's just what it costs for them to make it but if they can't get that cost into vaguely the same ballpark for a similar quality product then they shouldn't be making the product or at least people shouldn't be buying it.

I looked on eBay and this PEN is over $600. I'm sorry but I can't even wrap my head around this nonsense, it feels like they can just produce anything out of high-end materials and stamp it with a limited run number and it will sell regardless of the price or functionality of the thing, for that money there shouldn't be problems with it, it just looks plain and not at all custom. I don't think any real craftsmanship and thought has gone into the finished product.

At $300 price tag (dec 2019) I would expect a pen with some interesting material like marble cf, absolutely solid ( no rattles) and a balance a the point I’m holding a pen when writing. From video it looks very slippery, especially if one tries to write with wet hand. Honestly just because they feature the process of making the pen on KZbin, while is cool, still brings about $0 value. There are a lot of things that can be bought for $300....

kurt grates same as their knives...that truly aren't pretty. I feel like they are trying to pay off their expensive CNC equipment which is what actually creates their products. Their stuff is basically made from a computer software and a robot/lathe...just my unpopular view maybe.
