You don't normally think of the Channel fighting during WW1 as being so active, let alone in a air & sea fashion (compared to WW2). Thanks for this!

A girl I lived with once scoffed at my disgust of the small, rotund, pseudo-cabbages. She declared that properly cooked, they were very tasty. Despite my rude noises and protests, proceeded to demonstrate by preparing and cooking a batch to consume with a very nice roast beef. The "properly cooked" turned out to be about 1/3rd Brussels Sprouts and 2/3rds finely chopped and fried bacon, all in a slathering of butter. I must admit it was indeed very nice, as you could not taste them, or even detect their texture due to the bacon. My enthusiasm (I do love bacon) gave her already well deserved confidence in cooking an extra boost, put me in the good books for weeks, Win Win (but maybe not for the arteries?)! So really, in certain circumstances, even Brussels Sprouts have their use, so damn that dastardly Hun for ruining the crop!

I am of the opinion that everything can be improved via the addition of bacon. The fact that I see sprouts is on the menu for tomorrow gives me extra incentive to get some extra bacon. Just in case.

Good video, but the warships shown at 10 minutes in are the WWII vessels with the same name. At 10:10 the HMS Brazen shown (H80) wasn't commissioned until 1930. The HMS Brazen that would be correct for the video was a much older vessel, dating from 1896 (scrapped 1919). The HMS Recruit (J298) shown was an Algerine-class minesweeper launched in 1943. The correct vessel was of the same class as HMS Brazen. There was actually a replacement launched in 1916 that was also sunk by a U-boat. The "A-boat" (A-68) shown at 10:56 is actually a much bigger model than was involved in this action. The boats involved were of the "A-I" class, very small with only two 5cm gun aside from torpedoes (29 men). The A-boat shown was of the A-III class, 100 tons larger and a completely different design, with two 8.8 CM guns (50 crew). As I understand it, the pilot and observer from the German seaplane were picked up by a Dutch freighter and deposited on a lightship so a U-boat could retrieve them. Very much enjoy these videos!

As the Lewis didn't go into service until 1915 it couldn't have been the weapon on that FB.5 . FB.5s were initially armed with Vickers guns, hence the description of its armament as a Maxim. Later they changed to the Lewis when it became available as it avoided issues with the Vickers belts getting snagged, which caused stoppages.

Re Prondzynski and his observers, I find it more likely that he was the observer, as in the german military by that time, the rear seater ("Franz") was most often the aircraft commander instead of pilot ("Emil"). This made sense as the rear seat man had to do the navigation while the front seater was occupied enough keeping the thing flying.

At 10:10, that is the 1920s HMS Brazen B class destroyer that served in WW2, not the WW1 one. The WW1 one was a thoroughly obsolete 1898 built ship used for coastal patrol only. Also A class torpedo boats were not "large" by any means. In WW1, "torpedoboot" meant destroyer in german naval language and the A class was the smallest of them, developed to be carted by railway to Belgium like the UB I class submarines.
