Join us this week in practicing 'The Grinder'. This exercise is great to start getting the feel of the harmony of a tune you want to improvise on. At first this exercise may seem straight forward and simple, but as you get to the fourth step and start trying to attack the different inversions you may feel like ripping your hair out! The reward is that on the other side of this drill, when you can approach and play the rootless arpeggios in any inversion through a tune - you will have all sorts of material to improvise with!
Happy practicing!!!

Great stuff. You show how to start to break away from simplistic chord tone drills. This is going to wear me out!

Very valuable exercise! I would typically approach the third and would outline a chord but on the spot sometimes I don’t think of the chord so I do the scale. I will definitely take this exercise and start with the 3rd to 9th approach when looking at a tune. I also notice I’m not doing the upper and lower approaches enough as I’m always circling or enclosing. Also the video length was perfect
