@dig326553 That's a bit revisionist. Considering hardcore did have its origins on the East, it was California that brought gangsta rap to the forefront with acts like Ice T and NWA. Considering how much economic power Cali had back then, the labels had to pay attention to the buying power such acts had at even a local level. To this day, you still have mixtape artists like Messy Marv who don't need to move out of Cali and still pull 6 figures.
