So let's go back in history to 1998, because it was on this day, 26 years ago that Microsoft and Japanese video game maker Sega announced that they were collaborating on a console called Dreamcast. The big selling point of the machine was going to be a high definition graphics, which was a crucial at the time as video games were shifting from two dimensional to more realistic and complicated 3D formats. Enter Jensen Huang, still in his thirties at the time. He had just started Nvidia with two fellow engineers a few years prior in 1993, after recognizing the need for specialized processors to improve the look and speed of video games. Sega tapped the fledgling company to build the graphics processing unit for the Dreamcast. But those initial chips, they were a flop.

That’s an interesting take, for a 90’s baby to hear. I’ve grew up on sega and Nintendo PlayStation Consoles, and never had the funds for a computer until recently. I run a Nvidia GPU and the graphics are something else on a large 4K flat screen. Ironically I don’t have adequate internet to accommodate high band width demand. Which I’m hoping starlink will pull through for more rural US areas.

Still dont understand why big chippers like intel or qualcomm could not make GPUs like nvidia

Intel tried when Nvidia just started but their first one was a flop that I owned back then and they gave up on it after a single failure because they had CPU dominance to fall back on. Nvidia had nothing so it was this or bust. Intel again tries today after 25 years of avoidance but they're still failing because they have to play catch up. Qualcomm never had any foray into the end consumer market whatsoever.

The video just covers a 3 year period of 1998-2000 , not very informative

Commercial wise they didn't manage to compete with Sony, Nintendo and even Microsoft. The hardware was good but unless you can grab market share then it's considered a failure.

A high definition graphics? High definition wasn't a thing in the 90s. Plus the grammar lmao.

@@wrepresent lmao I'm extremely positive about Tesla so that's ironic But Nvidia is a GPU company and has no real long term moat. The Cisco comparison is real because what if drops to $400 and stays there? I'm more excited about Tesla or Microsoft or Google or new startups in chip design Nvidia is great but everyone is repeating this growth story The gaming side is in decline without ai h100s it's over

@@TheMagicJIZZ Nvidia has CUDA moat for one, they are also impossible not to use in data center because of their SpectrumX platform. Gaming is cyclical of course it's in decline, till fall when they release new cards. You're bullish on a stock that hasn't made gains in 4 years, and produces low quality low margin cars. Nice job, enjoy being poor

This was a good video actually, i remember the dreamcast. I used to use stolen credit cards in high school to buy them, this really brings me back. NVIDIA has done great things, i should have invested on them back then! That dreamcast had a fun fighting game too.

@@djayjp no nigga that's why I am investing and you are still buying chips. I recommend you start buying high bandwidth ram for your employees to keep up with your AI load. Check out companies in other places too like datacenter and peripheral to AI like 5344. End of the day, peasants work to serve the Gods. It will never change, so get back to work.
