They should plant more trees, especially along the streets. Kenya should develop a habit of planting trees in urban areas and along highways, roads and side walks. I'm in Rwanda and they do this everywhere, it's great.

Beautiful videos on Kenya new towns. A couple of comments though. I noticed a lack of recreational areas like tennis courts, play areas for basketball, running tracks, swimming etc. Also there must be Park areas as well as gardens art centres for community get together otherwise these areas become sterile and the kids drift away...Let's design Afrikan centred and functional towns.

I wish Kiambu county or Ruaka sub-county (if that's a thing) could have some sort of urban planning for this upcoming city. It seem to me like anyone who owns a plot in this area can just build whatever they want. (nothing wrong with building) I just want to see clear streets and an organized city that expands outwards rather than getting tangled in the center like Nairobi. Some city planning is needed not only here but in all major upcoming towns in Kenya!

Did you know that Ruaka derives its name from the river that flows through it called Ruaraka river? The word Ruaraka is coined from the Kikuyu name 'Rui rwa Aka'', which means the river of women. Legend has it that 'agu na agu', women were circumcised by the river. Now you know.

I’m a local resident. Wish landlords could join hands and fix access roads. in rainy season they are terrible. Waiting for county government could take decades. Same applies to lighting at night and not just in Ruaka but other neighborhoods. It looks beautiful from the air but this is another Githurai loading. Several buildings have collapsed in the area while under construction. Crime has also increased in recent years esp car jacking. Huge disparity in rent, you will find say a two bedroom almost similar houses in same area with a difference of 10k. Water is also another issue, it’s not enough due to huge population explosion. Most comes from boreholes which can be salty and have long lasting damage on teeth esp on kids. Sewerage does not exist, the stench from many endless “honey sucker” trucks is suffocating. Private schools are a robbery and extortion. I have seen Ruaka going from good to worse. Learn from other messed up estates like Buru buru, Umoja and South B. They were once nice and beautiful esp in the 80s and 90s. Good thing about Ruaka is access to Nairobi CBD, country side feel, diverse people of all backgrounds and ages and lots of easily available and cheap agricultural foodstuffs from nearby farms.

Kiambu county management take a cue from the Nairobi expansion plans and take full advantage. Kiambu is no longer farm land😢 Let Kiambu shine## PLAN!! Create value!!! The biggest piece of land in Ndenderu is a 1/4 what meaningful agriculture can be done. Lets create industries to process produce from the rift and have quality living quarters in Ndenderu, Ruaka, Banana, Wangige etc.

Yes, we need more regulation and structure when it comes to urban planning and building. We should east and up not west.

Nairobi from above is simply a concrete jungle in a real jungle. What is letting down. Kenya is issue of land any major building project must be delayed by court proceedings making project costly pinacle towers cynton towers Aviv, why can't the authority zone this areas digitise land records for clarity and remove burecracy.

Somebody who inherited a quarter here akaiuza 8m, how much would they be making per month selling vegetables in city park and ngara? I believe in less than 10 years he would have made that 8m, the land would still be his, na halipi rent and goes to work in cbd everyday. Anyway, ninahesabia mali sio yangu.

@gritt orisen ruaka is kiambu as a resident of kiambu county I can tell you that we have "foreigners' living amongst us,by that I mean this is Kikuyu land but people from other communities and tribes ndio wamejaa huku, you rarely see kikuyu's moving out of here yet kisii's,Luo's lughya' ndio tenants anywhere in kiambu,am telling you from what I know actually their becoming more than us locals .and the other kikuyu's you see around are from areas such as muranga, nyandarua etc that's what I mean by rural urban migration the villages have no opportunities so most communities fled here for greener
