Awesome video guys! In 2016 I visited the Tank Museum and was fortunate to see their Leopard 1 run in the arena, this was my first time seeing tanks up close let alone one tearing up the track, and the growl of that engine was awesome. Thank you for a most enjoyable, informative and entertaining video

Not a single mention of how they tested a Centurion and Leopard side by side at Puckapunyal. Centurion got 5 shots on target before the Leopard got one off. Centurion was visual sighted the Test Leopard used laser sighting which could not get sighted because of the dust they both kicked up. Go to the Armoured museam not the transport one you can read all about it there

This video was About the M60 VS Leopard Trials. Perhaps we will cover the Aussie cent. When we get the opportunity to see one.

Just felt I had to mention it as you went through the reasons for non early adoption of the Leopard. Failing to mention some things. No hate here just sharing thoughts Cheers

Thanks for input. I did read that somewhere during edit but found very little on it. Will definitely keep in mind when we get to Aus and hit a Cent.

@@MilitaryArmamentsCompany it's why every country test's new systems to find and rectify problems before production. They fixed the problem and the Leopard turned out great. Love the M60 as well it just looks like it wants to fight

Thanks for watching! Trying to put Australia on the world map where we can. Most of the info came out of a book I bought at Puckapunyal back in the early 2000s all on Leo AS1.

Unlike the Centurions, the Leopards had a nasty tendency to throw their tracks in Australian scrub and bush - loved the Centurions.
@MilitaryArmamentsCompany3 ай бұрын
I would hazard a guess here and say that's due the Leo being able to turn hard and fast with its hydrostatic transmission over the older cents. Turning radius at speed. With my own experience I can say more often then not, driver training can prevent throwing track.

What cannon did the vietnam Centurion have?

Tank crews never changed power packs, the corps of RAEME did, in the field it was done by recovery mechanics and vehicle mechanics.
@MilitaryArmamentsCompany3 ай бұрын
In the time I did crews had to help Raeme. We would unhook items, drag chain around, get on a tanker bar etc the mechanics obviously were the masters
@JBTSO3 ай бұрын
Yeah I changed dozens of packs. All the spanners did was lift them and sit on their arses. 🤷🏼♂️

@weaselman24 Load of b sh5t to me. Being at the SOA in 2000, our guy changed all packs. I was the radio mechanic there and know. Not sure at units, but we did all repairs there.
@tomproductions24683 ай бұрын
In 20 years of crewing the Australian Leopard I can guarantee that the only thing RAEME did was use the ARVM to lift the engine deck and then lift the engine. The crew did 90% of the work.

the leopard in the trials was a 1A2 not a 1A5. huge difference haha a 1a5 upgrade on the as1 would have been welcome in the 90s

Can you confirm that this Leopard 1 is actually an Australian one. The side skirts are wrong, the cover over the heater exhaust port was never on the AS1 and the pioneer tool bins never had the armoured plates on the front for protection

Hi guys, thanks for another great video, your knowledge is beyond reproach, I would have liked to see the Aussie purchase the M60 series of tanks, but then it was not my choice, or they may have uparmoured the Centurion andvthen re-engineered it but with a diesel power pack, cheers guys, best regards from a Kiwi living ( New Zealander) in Australia, Les
@MilitaryArmamentsCompany3 ай бұрын
Kia'ora Les, thanks for the kind words mate. It's sadly more often then not absolutely nothing to do with capability of the item up for purchase more often then not Political and Economic decisions influenced by our industry is the driving factors. Much like the Aussie Choice for the Steyr AuG over the M16 and SA80... we never trialed the Abrams over anything we just got them. The M60 Leo trial was a very rare 1 off occasion in military history, especially for Australia. Thanks mate.

@@discount8508 the biggest issue isn't so much the engine noise, although you do get a boom out of it when you light it up, it's the high pitch of the tracks on the idler, which is amplified through the hull steel right to the driver.
