You should make your handicap no more than 25% of the time.. but we all have good days... golf is "Good and Bad".... slicing your irons left and right like you did in this video makes you both mid handicappers at best.... below 10 and you can hit at least your irons straight... thats how you get below 10... (we dont need to mention the short game as a back up to that )

Westy if you have as many shanks as you say you do then the simple solution is to step back a quarter of an inch and set the club up more towards the toe... only a little but off centre towards the toe... I will ask you this => how many toe strikes do you get??? if its not many then most of your strikes are towards the heal... drop yourself and the club back a quarter of an inch... it is not unusual to see a good standard of player setting up to cover their misses => club slightly open, club slightly closed, club off centre etc...

Surely club selection depends on the course you are playing, time of year and what’s in front of you. There isn’t a stock shot, some players do try and use the same shot every time, normally fail miserably. Pick the easiest and best scoring option, there will always be at least 3 options, chose the one you are most comfortable with. If there is a shot you need regularly and can’t play, hit the practice ground or book a lesson. Golf is difficult enough, without not using your brain.

The comments about handicaps on here make me giggle and reflect how people just don’t seem to understand the handicap system and what it means. It’s a reflection of you playing at your best…you having a 10/10 day. Both Dec and Westy played like a couple of hackers here…but we know Westy on a good day can get mid low 80 and Dec on his home course, could knock it around mid 80. If your handicap is correct then you will not play exactly to it…most of the time you will be doing well to get within 2 or 3 strokes of it. Ash plays of scratch yet how many times have we seen him play 3-6 over, yet nobody calling him out because his swing looks good, he bangs it a long way and is pretty consistent. But he will play worse than scratch most of the time. What Dec is probably guilty of is not handing in bad cards etc so living off a handicap that is not actually up to date and applicable in the real world

Good points, Dec definitely does’t hand in the bad rounds. Can he shoot 12 over in a round, sure. But given the amount on inconsistencies, tops, slices, fats… the 12 HC is definitely not reflective of his game. It’s an ego thing for him unfortunately, to stay ahead of his brothers, but in reality he’s far from a 12 at the moment
