Season 3...that was the most damage Sarah had because she was highlighting and darkening in shades and had movie roles. It was sooooo damaged so she wore hair extensions in season 4. Her healthiest was seasons 5 and 7

Now I can't unsee it lol. Apart from the first season (health-wise, not style lol), I have always thought that it looks best in the second half of season 5 and the first half of season 7... She's always beautiful, and her hair has never looked totally fried (omg the Y2K era completely wrecked the hair of so many people lol), but you really can notice how much more shine and dimension it seems to have when it's pulled up. Also, that wig that Sarah chops off in season 6... 🫣🤫😂

Great video! I was always fascinated by Buffy's hair and fashion choices and changes throughout the series, but I never found so much meaning into her hair styles like you did. You have some great insights, I especially like the dichotomy you found between straight hair at times when she is stressed and serious, and wavy hair when she feels more at ease with herself and her life direction. Sarah’s hair color was a personal choice. In fact, I remember hearing that Emma Caulfield got a lighter shade of blonde when season 6 started and the higher ups were afraid it would clash with Buffy’s hair and the audience would confuse the two. But when Sarah got a darker hair color (which they described as honey blonde), the problem was averted.

IDK why but I actually really loved the hair she had at the beginning of season 6 when she came back to life. I love Buffy's hair, in general, cause it's just gorgeous, especially season 1 where it sorta has that bouncy, Rachel from Friends season 2 kind of look. But I always found her long dark blonde hair when she comes back to life just beautiful. Was kinda sad when she cut it later (even though it looked adorable). I guess it just made her look so mature and it was such a different look for her that I would have liked to see explored.

I saw the red-ish brown hair from the Season 6 premiere as also symbolizing death and darkness. She came back from a wonderful plane of reality to the harshness of the real world. So the dark hair shows that while she is back, her perspective of the world around her is steep in fear and as we saw an almost brutal response to anything that resembles a threat.

I always thought it was cute looking. I don’t get the hate in some of these comments. Most people think her hair was her best in seasons 2-4. The strawberry blonde hair in season 6, for example, looked really off…. and didn’t suit Sarah. I think shorter hair looks better on her.

I adore Buffy's hair in season 1. One moment I always think of is the final battle in The Gift. Buffy has had her hair tied up for a while - no wonder as they've been going through hell- we see Glory face off and destroy the Buffybot (who has her hair up) and then we see the real buffy, her hair down and free. This is the true Buffy and I also think it's a slightly nod to her coming sacrifice- she goes into the next life natural and unobstructed.

Loved this video. Another character whose hair very much reflects her trials and tribulations is Cordelia. Especially in Angel. I think she and Wesley are the only characters who goes through as much, if not more than Buffy. Willow came close though.

I've always enjoyed watching the hair changes of buffy. Probably didn't help that I had a major crush on her and was always wanting to know more about her. Here's a easy ranking from best hair to worst hair 1. Season 2. Perfect, soft, voluminous cute and sexy 2. Season 1. Natural, fluffy, had variety and framed her cute pudgy season 1 face very well 3. Season 5. Her hair was kinda inconsistent this season but there were some episodes like Crush and Out of Mind where her hair just looked so luscious and gorgeous 4. Season 6 - While not the best with long hair her haircut midway through was very simple and looked very sleek. Reminiscent of season 2 kinda but not nearly on season 2 level. 5. Season 4 - While not terrible it always felt like they simply added extentions just to give her a different look for that season. It looked decent for the most part but I've never been a fan of fake hair especially when you have nice hair already 6. Season 7 - The hair was really just flat looked kinda unhealthy a lot of times. I just wasn't a fan 7. Season 3 - This is when she was in that awkward growing out her hair phase from season 2 to season 5. While not completely bad it just looked messy all the time even when fully styled. anyway that's my overanalysis and superficial analysis of her hair :D. Judge me if you want no regrets

I think season 2 and 3 were her best. And I ALWAYS hated her season 6 hair. That strawberry blonde color doesn’t suit her. I also thought her haircut in season 6 (like in the Double Meat Palace) looked awful. It’s not the same cut as season 2…. It’s just weirder looking. Her cutest and most trendy was definitely season 3. Sarah looks better with shorter hair. Her long blonde hair in season 4 was nice too. I never thought her hair was that noticeable in season 7. And season 5 was ehhhh… too curly and bouncy.

Buffys hair looked it’s best in season 2-3. It’s iconic. I hated when her hair had that reddish look to it in season 6, both when it was long and short. The cut and dark chunky highlights didn’t look good on her (or anyone for that matter).

The only thing I would say about her Season 1 hair is that it was probably only brown/darker blonde because SMG is a natural brunette and would've been too much to bleach it at that point in time. Joss Whedon had always envisioned her as a blonde valley girl archetype and made a mistake of making her hair and makeup earthier and natural, he realised she needed to be the valley girl hence the season 2 look.

The choice wasn't Joss's to have her hair that dark. Fun fact, lol, the reason it was so dark in the first season was because SMG did a gig where they had dyed her hair black. Once you dye hair black it is VERY hard to make it valley girl blonde, and they didn't have time to do it right before season one had to be filmed like you said. By season 2, they had time to bleach the absolute shit out of her hair, which is the only way to get dyed black hair to valley girl blonde. That is why it looked soooo bleached at the start of season 2, as well as damaged. Luckily by the end of that season they softened the color.

I think her best styles were seasons 3. 4 and 5 and maybe 7. Season 1 was a little too high school, season 2 was kinda bland. She really rocked the bleach blonde hair more, especially in 3 and 4. Season 6 was the worst I think. And season 7 is good, but it also made her look a little older even though she was supposed to be in her college years still (like maybe 20 ish...?)
