For those who don't know, Hamilton is a Broadway musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It's about the life of Alexander Hamilton and the birth of America before and after the revolutionary war. “Immigrants, we get the job done” is part of the song “Yorktown(The World Turned Upside Down)” which is the song where the colonies officially defeat Britain. In the beginning, Hamilton (an immigrant- who is one of our founding fathers and created our money system) and Lafayette (a Frenchmen who decided to come to America to help in the war) meet up and say the phrase “immigrants, we get the job done”. The part where you hear “and just like that it's over we tend to our wounded, we count our dead. Black and white soldiers wonder alike if this really means freedom… Not yet” George Washington says 'not yet' referring to slavery since the slaves were obviously not free even after the colonies were freed from Britain. Honestly, if you've never listened to Hamilton-- do it. Like, it's a rap musical about history. And there's tons of drama. It helped me through my US History class last year😂😂

In regards to “we came to take back the gold that was stolen”: When Spain discovered & conquered Mexico, they stole gold artifacts from the Aztec native Indians. Aztecs weren’t aware of the value of gold, to them it was just a natural mineral from the earth. The Aztecs used gold to make statues of their gods, everyday tools , artifacts & jewelry. When the European Spaniards conquered Mexico they were amazed at the amount of gold the Aztecs had. They simply took over the land, killed more than 3 million Aztecs via weapons & diseases, then stole the majority of their gold & silver. They shipped it back to Spain. All these gold, historical artifacts were destroyed & melted, used to make the gold coins used as currency in Europe.

Close - the "Mix Tape" is remixes and re-interpretations of all the songs from the soundtrack. This song does indeed sample from "Yorktown", but instead of being about the Battle of Yorktown (like in the show), this is about immigrants; that's a cause very close to Lin-Manuel Miranda's interests. But you're right that there is an instrumental version too. That's just a different album entirely. Lin-Manuel Miranda did the re-mix with other artists first, and THEN did the instrumental version so all of US could do our own stuff with it (making our own remixes, karaoke, etc.).

I'm late but Residente's part 7:45 has historical implication. A lot of the South belonged to Mexico before Americans started crossing borders where sparse Mexican populations already resided. This part is a commentary on land taken and also that Mexicans were already in California (their land at the time) during the gold rush. In the midst of the gold rush the US took Mexico's territory and made it impossible for the Mexicans already living there to keep searching for gold like they had been. Mexicans and Chinese were forced to pay to look for gold and had to pay a tax on the gold they discovered. They made no money that way and because most Gold Rush Americans were men the Chinese took up "women jobs" of laundry that you still see today. the Mexicans took up "women jobs" of cooking that you also see today. It's very interesting to see people that now have a voice use their voice.

You might already now this but, it's a mixtape Daveed Diggs did with other rappers who are also minority in the USA. He plays Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the Broadway musical Hamilton. It's a musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it's basically the life of Alexander Hamilton but with rap and hip hop. The musical is still playing in Broadway but it's extremely difficult to find tickets for it since they sell very fast. You can find the whole soundtrack here on YT and I highly recommend you listen to it.

to clarify what Residente ( the one who sang only in Spanish) says "we came to look for the gold they stole from us" he is referring to Puerto Rico where we were colonized by Spanish and then Americans because of how rich in gold our island was. It can also be referring to how rich in petroleum other Latin american countries are and how EEUU has exploited them. I believe and example would be Venezuela (please correct me if i'm mistaken).

"Immigrants, we get the job done" is one line in a huge song called "Yorktown" that inspired this song. They made the amazing music video to announce the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition which is to help provide aid to immigrants in the country.

Hamilton is a hip-hop broadway musical about our founding father Alexander Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda (the creator of In The Heights) is the writer, Alex Lacamoire is the band director, and forgive me but there are others who participated but I forgot their names. It originally started as a concept album called "The Hamilton Mixtape," but after writing a couple of more songs, Lin and the others decided that it'll be more fit as a musical, so instead of "The Hamilton Mixtape" they bumped it down to "Hamilton: An American Musical." The reason this is called Immigrants: We Get The Job Done is because Lin and his collaborators have joined with different organizations to help raise up money for immigrants around the United States, and there is a line in one of the songs ("Yorktown" I believe, correct me if I'm wrong haha,) in the musical that goes: "immigrants, we get the job done." And they high five. You can also donate and win a free trip to LA for the opening night of Hamilton, and you can also meet Lin-Manuel himself. All you have to do is donate ten dollars.
