That Hamlet film was fantastic. It was suggested to beat the one of Lawrence Olivier.

This is so badass. So much better than the flaccid Hollywood scores, today. I wish more movie & TV composers could write like this--or even be permitted to write like this. (Oftentimes, directors just wants the BG music to sound like the temp tracks they work with in post-production.)

15:05 - sounds like Khachaturian, not Shostakovich.
@Galastel8 жыл бұрын
Maybe Shostakovich drew inspiration from Khachaturian for this bit. In the film, that's the theme of the actors' arrival, a scene where Hamlet's madness (or "madness" - however you choose to interpret it) is very prominent.
@TheVaughan57 жыл бұрын
I think there are parts in the score that sound decidedly like Prokofiev rather than Khachaturian though I have to confess I don't know a lot of the latter's works.

WWR - music, почему вы пишете. что на 15.05 Хачатурян ??? На этом месте фанфары, они могут быть у кого угодно. Это все - Шостакович , гениальный Шостакович.

Shostakovich is simply one of the greatest classical composers of all time, but especially the 20th Century. It is unbelievable the hardships he endured, the criticism, the polemicism, the blackmail. Eventually master murderer Stalin dies, the regime becomes anxious to accommodate change and artists are rehabilitated. For years bowed by extreme tyranny, and the disappearances of family, friends and colleagues Shostakovich leaves fear behind and his life becomes tolerable. He marries late for love. His music demonstrates cynicism, terror, remorse, defiance and a the love of his people. It explodes with anger at how they were treated and lied to. His glorious orchestrations range from his experimental early symphonies to his later and greatet works. In isolation and penury he wrote scores for cinema to earn enough to survive, and from this period of poverty and official diminution some of the most sublime music ever created (eg Gadfly) emerged. Dimitri Dimitrivitch Shostakovich - a musical giant.

Shostakovich's music has always a taste of rage, darkness and violence.... the musical footstep of a society sick under Stalin's hand.
