The Hand-Drawn Movies of DreamWorks Animation

I love DreamWorks hand-drawn animated movies.

Both The Prince of Egypt and The Road to El Dorado happen to be my two favorite hand-drawn DreamWorks animated films. I don't see any reason why hand drawn animated features from the major studios shouldn't continue to co-exist with CGI animated films made by them. If the major studios decided to make hand-drawn animated films again someday, they should not only actually put more effort in being their own thing, but also innovate with the style, taking it in directions never achieved before.

Klaus is a great example of how far hand drawn animation can go. There's so many possibilities for new techniques in that form. If Dreamworks goes back to hand drawn animation one day, I would really love to see them innovate more.

Mr.Coat did you know that DreamWorks was the only animation company that did every medium such as Hand-Drawn, Stop-motion, and CGI? That was impressive for a company like DreamWorks to do that, and succeeding in bringing historical, and biblical stories in those two mediums. It is sad that they eliminated both hand drawn and Stop-motion Aardman films, because of the CGI films making way more money than those mediums that were making low box office results.

They could go back to making hand drawn films, but they never really made the stop motion Aardman films, they just distributed them.

I would say they do better 2d animation than Disney. Disney is good with musicals and heart warming movie but there is something about DW 2d movies that are huge and high quality.

There is one scene in The Road to Eldorado where the horse does talk and it’s the scene where Julio and Miguel first enter Eldorado if you look closely at the Horse his lips move when they say Eldorado.

When Prince of Egypt came along I truly believed Dreamworks would be the one that changed American animation, and the other movies kept my hopes up - they touched on serious issues without being preachy, the characters were complicated and morality wasn't black and white, I truly did think they'd show this country that animation doesn't have to be just for kids and teens. And then the Shrek franchise came along and ruined everything.

Well Stefan, it may interest you to know that I just petioned Dreamworks to make more animated bible movie adaptations, as well as petitioned them to make a Road to El Dorado TV series, as well as a Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas TV series.
