Thanks for this. I lived jest a minute away in Eden Street. Alas, at the age of around 24, I was far too old to visit The Hap, but I remember Ciano well. He generally called everyone 'Friend' yet had an amazing memory (at least for the girls!) Long after The Hap closed, in his Union Street cafe, I mentioned one of his customers, Betty Hogan. He dashed into the basement and was back a minute later with her photo! What a character!!

Great bloke Ciano....after the Hap closed in the Arbroath road,he opened the Washington in Union st.
