This was actually the first ACT I ever took back when I was a junior in high school. I remember getting a 35 on the math portion which was way higher than I had been scoring in practice tests.

On the log problem, you could just graph it in the form it is on zoom standard and tell immediately from the picture if you know what domain means.

Took the ACT on February 9th. I increased from a 32 to a 34! I don’t think I’ll take it again but I started out with a 25 so I went up 9 points!

You can do synthetic division. It’s very easy and fast.
@brookifyd5 жыл бұрын
Yes that is an option, too. I find it takes longer to teach than polynomial division and that students are prone to careless errors if not familiar already with it. If you know it, then it works well!

For the first one, just take the limit as the derivative of the function approaches infinity or negative infinity to get the slope if you didn’t have a graph.

First to comment, but I have a question. Should I take precalculus over the summer? It’s only a few months, and I’m not sure if I can handle Calculus and my course load. Oof, I forgot to mention I’m in the 8th grade so there is also the transition to high school.
@wizardude123455 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Nelson I’m sorry, but what would be the purpose of taking pre calc over the summer? You’re already ahead in math, so I would suggest taking pre calc freshmen year, and follow sophomore year with calculus. You still have two years of high school to complete any math classes you desire.
@nicholasn.28835 жыл бұрын
Kms to do it to em. I enjoy the challenge but maybe you’re right
@jackyhuang88625 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Nelson if you decide to do pre calc over the summer I guess you’ll technically only have 2 more math classes left (Ap calc ab and bc or stats) but idk if you really want to do that....
@wizardude123455 жыл бұрын
jacky huang he could continue calc at nearby colleges. There’s a kid at my school who’s taking calc 3 at the local university,.
@brookifyd5 жыл бұрын
You're ahead already and I find that when students rush these kinds of classes they often don't retain as much and those gaps surface when doing standardized tests etc. they need for college-- take the time you need to learn pre-calc as for admissions it's more important than calculus. Taking Calc soph year is still way ahead of most of your peers. What about a course in coding or science?

@DiegoPerez-wj7pj5 жыл бұрын
I'd say to take a practice test of each and see which one you score higher on. For example, since I'm scoring higher on the ACT, I'm taking it in March. (Plus, our school mandates that we take the ACT in order to graduate.)

If a picture is worth a 1000 words, then how much is a good graph worth? Brooke, for that second question #54, I would STRONGLY recommend that you graph the function. In fact for most domain & range questions, I would strongly encourage anyone who has a graphing calculator to graph it. This problem becomes so much easier when you can ACTUALLY SEE the domain instead of manipulating an equation. If you have a good graphing calculator, you can simply look at the table and see that the domain is K! Pictures, Pictures and more pictures!

You don’t take the remainder into account. I’m not exactly sure why, but you just ignore the remainder for the equation of a slant asymptote. Try graphing it, it works out

It is the most easy question in our country , Uzbekistan ! You encouraged me , if it is the hardest ACT question , I can easily take 36 on math section . Reading and Writing are difficult for me . Which book do you advise me for self-studying ?
@theoneandonlygoga5 жыл бұрын
lol logarithmic one is stupidly easy. just know that log a B is defined only when a>0 (and doesn't equal 1) and when B>0. from here we'd have to solve basic quadratic (viet theorem yields 1 and 3 right away) and then use interval method to use the inequality. that literally takes 15 seconds to figure out

Can you do videos about AP classes (and exams)? Like, which ones are easiest/hardest, which look best on college applications, how to study for each class, etc.
@benicioc73825 жыл бұрын
No lie I got all of these in like 15 seconds a piece and I'm only at a 30 on the math section. For the first one, I did what she ended up saying to do and find the vertical asymptetope with the denomnator so you know that x has to = 3, the find the average of the two extremes which looks to be about 0 and 30, which ends up being nearly exactly 16. The second one just graph it and (on a TI-84) press trace and test points. I just happened to test x=2 first and it showed me that x=2 is not in the domain, and that right away took me from five potential answers to two. Then i checked x=0 and that was in the domain, giving me an answer becuase only one of the two remaining choices had x=0 in the domain. And for the last one, you know it's an absolute value function and its asking for the minimum value, so you know it has to be upward opening becuase if it opened downward there is no minimum point, and you know the minimum value of an upward opening abs function is just it's vertical shift or '-q'. These questions are really, really easy of you just think outside of the box and don't just try the number crunching way to do it. There's ALWAYS more than one way do do these problems and I did all three of these 'hardest problems ever' in less than a minute total becuase I thought about it abstractly, so just remember to not think so critically about the problem and even if you don't know how to do it the 'right' way, you can still get the question right. It's not like the ACT graders are checking for your work, just choose the right letter.
