I would say advertising the cigarettes is a "nuclear" option if there are no other options such as grants, lowering bottom line, or asking for state assistance. Personally the way I'd approach this situation if our hand was being forced would be to acsess what is being advertised, gather opinion of the hospital team, and then give an ultimatum that this deal will only proceed if we publicly acknowledge the basis of the deal. As in to be open to the public we only took the deal to keep the doors open, and as a result we must advertise, and we are obliged to say use your discretion when encountering this advertisement and with your lifestyle habits. Basically it's a check mate, you give autonomy back to the patients, you take the money... the downside is you have a stain on the hospital reputation but at it was with honesty. This would NOT be my answer, but only a thought experiment again if there was no hope of securing funds otherwise.

Hello, thank you for this video! I am so grateful for BeMo's youtube channel. You guys are the best. I have a question: If the interviwer says. " your only two options are advertise cigarattes or make cuts to staff and medical supplies," do you think a suitable answer would be to advertise cigarettes becuase cutting staff and medical supplies would ultimatley be the most harmful to patient care? So I would have to advertise cigarettes. (lets say this is a following up question so I have already gone through all the pros and cons and options)

Hey Sophie! Thanks for your comment. Try to be creative - is it possible to apply for grants? Is it possible to get other sponsors? You can certainly use your response, but you will have to justify your answer with a very memorable explanation :)

I personally would not say to advertise cigarettes because doctors have been trying to educate the general population on the harmful impact of cigarettes and smoking and if they started to promote this, it would basically be telling everyone that its fine to smoke which would lead to a significant burden on the healthcare system down the line when many people begin to develop lung cancer. I think if you had to choose ONE option, making some cuts to medical supplies or staff members would probably be better, maybe we could look into cheaper medical supplies that are still safe alternatives, and for staff we could potentially close a department which isn't critical to the hospital for example. Like if we know there is another hospital close by that offers X service, we could consider shutting down this service in our own hospital because it's not often used and we could look into transferring patients to this other hospital instead. Additionally, I would not begin by jumping to either of these as a final option, I would first suggest that we try to find alternate funding, or perhaps create a fundraiser event which could help us avoid having to cut down medical expenses or staff in the first place. I would also say that we could look for alternate sponsors besides a cigarette company which are more looking into promoting a health lifestyle.

Good advice but please for the love of god edit in some on-screen text of the prompt and some bullet points of the big topics of the video. Crazy and frankly lazy job to not do such a basic step......
