Maybe there’s a separate video to be done on more achievable O grades. Marie Rose is probably the most attainable O1 out there, as he famously failed on the flash.

I agree to Ondra being a goat, but I think it is not Shubert who is a runner-up but Sharma. He was isane outdors, very creative with finding projects like Dura dura and bibliography and with deep water solos and was for sure the one who created the great loving and friedly atmosphere in climbers community
@ukclimbingofficial
@ukclimbingofficial 6 ай бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree. Sharma pushed the standards significantly and did so in several disciplines (boulder, sport and DWS), which is what makes him one of the all-time greats. Without him I doubt Ondra would have gone on to have done what he has, because he was ultimately building on the foundations that'd been laid by Chris' many incredible achievements.

1:00 A0? A1? A2? Is this British pronounciation of O0, O1 and O2 or did you just introduce yet another scale??? 😂

I feel like 9a would be more like E11, being generous at that Heck, if rest of pro is comparable to the photo (or few + not much higher beyond that) then even E10 is probably reasonable

Surely someone can come up with a far more objective way of grading than any of the current methods!? Eg, someone could take a database of the hardest climbs and whose done them in order to figure who the best climbers are, and then use that data to rank routes according to not only who has climbed them, but also who failed - and by that we can see some objective means of grading!? Yes/no!?
@ukclimbingofficial
@ukclimbingofficial 6 ай бұрын
In a word: no. Climbing isn’t objective, it’s hugely subjective - and is on a number of accounts. As a result, there will always be a difference of opinion and that’s not a bad thing. People have different strengths and weaknesses too and that will always have an impact on each individual’s perception of a route.

Is it just me, or are climbers just too nice now. We all know James secretly hoped Adam would fail, and cried a little inside when he clipped the anchor. Climbing was WAY more fun when there were fist-fights, bolt wars, and real men wore lycra.

I think you've confused climbing with wrestling, an understandible mix up considering the commonalities
@ukclimbingofficial
@ukclimbingofficial 6 ай бұрын
I like the fact that climbers are nicer. Having witnessed some of the cliques and egos of yesteryear it’s nice to see the sport become more accepting and open. I genuinely hope James was glad to see Adam repeat his route, not least because he confirmed both the grade and quality. Anyhow, maybe I’m being too nice here myself - I’ll go back to downgrades and idle speculation again soon, don’t worry 😅

I don’t get why everyone says Adam is the greatest of all time - wat about the comp scene n Olympics I feel he can fumble under pressure as evident during some world cups where he fell early on during lead routes so I don’t think its necessary clear that he is the greatest ever if he hasn’t proven him self in the comp scene yet. That said he is certainly top 3 but I can’t say he is like the MJ of climbing bc I think comp scene is the only place where ppl are compared evenly in a timed manner under the same pressure and whoever comes out on top has a clear winner otherwise outdoor climbing has a lot of other factors such as accessibility, weather n is hard to judge objectively.
@ukclimbingofficial
@ukclimbingofficial 6 ай бұрын
Are you joking? Adam is an incredible comp climber… He might not have won the Olympics but he’s the only male climber to have won the World Champs in lead and Boulder in the same year and also the first male athlete to have won the World Cup series in both disciplines (lead climbing in 2009, 2015, and 2019 and bouldering in 2010). He’s broken into two new grade boundaries in sport climbing - 9b+ and 9c, climbed 9a trad, 8C+ boulder that may turn out to be 9A and CLIMBED THE DAWN WALL. Surely no one else compares?

@@ukclimbingofficial what about Jakob Schubert ? I would say he is better than ondra when it comes to the comp scene.
@ukclimbingofficial
@ukclimbingofficial 6 ай бұрын
@@junyuzhang414 Yes, probably, but only just. He’s never won a Boulder WC series. Ondra’s feats on rock far eclipse Jakobs, and that’s saying something. Ondra is the GOAT and it’s not even close.
