Thanks for posting that! Man I love my '74 FLH Shovel. They have their flaws, require regular maintenance but damn, they are loads of fun. I have 4 Harleys, nothing makes me smile more than the Shovelhead.

The Sturgis, for style, has to be at/near the top of everyone's list. But it's propensity to cook the primary belt killed it quick...and thus, my #1 has to be the Bad Boy. Very cool vid...nice find. Cheers.

Awesome. You know what this video reminds me of, the scene in stepbrothers where they’re pitching the company and they make that video, “technology, we put white out on a bee…and it died. Security, black fingerless gloves,” “investors….maybe you!!” 🤘🤣👍

It's funny you brought this up. It too is my favorite of all time. I currently own a 1980 FXS low rider. 17k miles and a survivor. When I saw your video of you riding your old one and grinning...I totally get it. If I ever see an original sturgis for sale I'm gonna snag it. I have a 20 RGS with a 131 and a trask turbo. Love it more than most can imagine, but my low rider is a different kind of love..first love

One of my RAF buddies had one in Germany, around 1980 I think. Same time as I had my XLH 1000 Sportster 'Hugger'.

A co worker had the original Low Rider Sturgis while we were riding Wide Glides and FLHS models. He had the coolest bike ever made by Harley. Perfect stance and riding position.. Just bad ass. Saw one in Deadwood this year and it looked awesome. I would have a tough time saying no if I found one for sale.

Hey Monkey, I have a 1980 Sturgis that I picked up a few years ago. It's in rough shape as the owner didn't leave it alone and I don't think he knew what he was doing.I started taking stuff apart until I got all that I found wrong with it off and now it's down to the frame. I didn't have to touch the motor or trany but now have to put it back together the right way. I also picked up a 84 FLHS in pretty much the same shape. I have two others that I'm putting together first but can't wait to get to them. Not enough time for everything we want to do. Later

I can't remember if the original Sturgis had a wet or dry primary belt. I do remember that they really burned through primary belts.

Mr Monkey - I waste a lot of time on Marketplace and this past week someone in Florida had a mint two owner ‘82 on there for sale 12k I believe. Didn’t save it cause obviously I’m not in posusiton to purchase a! Expensive antique. Love the old bikes though my main ride is a ‘97 FLH which I know many wouldn’t call old. Anyhow love your honest and open personality KZbin Channel.

When I was 20, my friend let me take his for a ride. It felt really large. Started it up, and it shook like hell. Going down the road, going through the gears, never felt anything like that. The one thing I could think to myself is that the girls must really like this motorcycle. Never own another motorcycle, then a Harley Davidson.

Back when harley knew what the bikers wanted and actually road there bike and were in the culture! My P tells the story of him being in stugis in 1981 amd walking down main street looking at bikes and stopped to look at this one and that had a belt drive vs chain. This guy asked him what he thought of the belt. He was like alot cleaner but will see how long it lasts. Turned out it was the prototype stugis and willy G was asking him his thoughts about the double belt lol

That was a cool flash back in time Monk. But that poses a question in your professional medical opinion or professional monkey opinion.Which one's the better Sturgis? The 1980 to 82 or the 91 50th aniversery re release. Shovelhead vs Evo.. i would say mechaniclly.. the 91 only because of the primary issues on the original. Any thoughts?
