Sorry but the trade for Varsho was a big lost and they never came back from it and the off season was just more of the same Nothing

Moreno had a .450 batting average on balls in play for 2 months. That's high and lucky. Outside of that, his OPS+ was like 90 or even below. Despite his golden arm, he may be the worst base runner in baseball, has no power, he hits the ball on the ground 55% of the time and had 17 GIDP. Lourdes also hit into 21 double plays. Varsho, just 5 dp. Even with struggles he didn't obliterate base runners. It's crazy to think, but we may not make the playoffs with those 33 additional GIDP in the season. Vlad and Kirk already had 45+ between them. If I'm a betting man, I'd take Varsho rebounding to average over Moreno being that lucky again for a sustainable period, let alone a season. It only hurt because we saw Moreno in a miracle run after being shut down and we didn't have Jano for half the season. By the All Star break, Varsho will be beloved.

This is the most realistic and responsible post you've made this off season. Guessing at trades or free agent signings is pointless. Everybody's available until they're not. Last season the most reliable performers were pitchers. We know Vlad has power. This season he either proves he can deliver consistently or he's cut loose. Varsho needs to adjust at the plate too. Kirk's got to rediscover his stroke and Springer needs a bounce back season. We land a genuine DH and hope that the players we have play hard game in and game out. It's not a WS series team but if the team fires on all cylinders, it will be competitive. If not, then it's time for a rebuild.

There is ZERO need for a DH. This team has been set up specifically to be flexible. Guys like Springer, Kirk and Guerrero all rotate into DH. We could use a good 1B/DH type but more off of the bench than every day type guys. By taking that approach, it opens the door to support the younger guys filtering into the lineup. A young outfielder can play OF when Springer plays DH for example. In theory, six days of DH can be covered by those three guys mentioned. That opens up more time for Jansen, a 4th OF and maybe someone like Barger who could potentially come up and play a little 3B and 1B. To me, the best move right now is to remove some excess depth in positions like middle infield (Espinal) and get under the Luxury tax threshold. Invest some time into the younger guys like Martinez and Barger. Let this team fall where they fall. If it isn’t good enough to make the playoffs spending $230mil then there is a roster construction issue with money being tremendously misspent throughout the roster.

The off season has been pretty anti-climatic in any big signings but they have a lot of young talent waiting and ready to get to the show. My standards for this season are low.. id be happy with consistency more from the core than bring expensive names in to have the same outcome.

I knew there was a good chance that the Jays head sheds would do alot of sweet talking and buck dancing while in the end not do a heck of alot. It's clear to me that the Jays have made it their strategy to have a bunch of B players who they can pinch hit and run through out the game. That has been their style. What have they done player wise besides acquire a couple of B players? The puzzle pieces are there it just needs to be put together and we can see what it is.

They aren't winning anything this year. The big teams, mets, yankees, dodgers, etc, spend the money and make the moves to be in the running most years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But they go for it. The jays are like, were happy if we just make it to the playoffs. If your gonna play, play to win.

Big flashy trades and signings are always nice to see as a fan, but we need to remember they don’t guarantee anything. The Angels had Trout and Ohtani for 5 years and were a bust. The Mets spent more than $350 million and look where that got them. I believe Vlad and Bo can carry this team to greatness

Here is the reality. Very weak free agent year. Don’t overspend on FA’s that are way over valued. Wait to see the FA’s available next year. That and Vlad, Bo, DJ, Gausman, Bassitt will need to be extended soon. Just need a quality LH bat who can be a fourth outfielder. Not a bad offseason.

Why should I cheer and support these hitters ? Vlady Jr learned nothing in three years, Springer is out of his prime, Kiermaier a .240 hitter, Varsho hasn't performed to 2023 year expectations. We traded all our depth and hitting power. Ans, you want me to cheer on has beens. The pitching is different, Gausman, Kurchi, Bassit, and Berrios are performing to expectation to win 80-82 wins. Atkins, Shapiro did nothing in the 2023 winter, and traded are best players, Guriel, Motero, Herandez, and Marco Stroman. Atkins and Sharpiro destroyed Cleveland , now destroy TO, since coming here. And, the sad part is we have a $230 - $300 million budget.

If this team performs as they are capable, they will compete. Yes, there are some holes and there is time to fill them. If this team performs as they should, they will be in the mix and can pick up what's needed mid season to put them into a good position to make a run. I'm so tired of the people complaining that Rogers isn't spending, or management doesn't know what they're doing...if you're that unhappy, go root, root, root for the Yankies.

This is worst than last year I expect better years from Manoa, kirk and vlad but I expect defensive regression on the infield without Chapman especially from bichette. Last year we were miraculously healthy as far as rotation goes and we can't rely on that again. Unless something major happens I think this is a 75 to 80 win team
