Honestly, I feel for the "ghost" and the conductor as much as I do Lee Seung Hwan and Kim Hakja's family. Like, Lee Seung Hwan's career was destroyed, but so would the subway operator's. He definitely would have been black listed by other subways, and I suspect it's a highly technical job, which would make it very difficult to switch careers. So my guess is they rationalized their lying through saying, the operator would have been financially ruined, while Lee Seung Hwan would at least still have the wealth he had already made from his previous popularity. Then the hakja theory and the government response spun everything so out of control that they were scared the entire country would be angry if they came forward. Just a bad situation for such a silly little thing.

But see, the difference between the conductor and LSH is that the conductor chose to take his friend onto the train cockpit with him. By choosing to do that, he chose to possibly mess with his career as well. LSH didn't choose any of that, yet still lost his career. The train conductor got to live a happy life and had a full career as though he did nothing wrong. When it was the LSH who in fact did nothing wrong and should've still had his career. LSH's life was ruined due to the conductor's bad choice, not his own. So, I don't feel sorry the conductor and his friend at all, they didn't suffer and knew what they were doing before they did it.
@amitakumaradasa60202 жыл бұрын
@@holagataeang personally, I think it is the overreaction of media, government, and religious group that is worsening things that shouldn't be this big. if they wait until the ghost fever run out and switch to other trend, the whole ordeal would have passed in a short time (I think max 3 months and people would have been tired of ghost story). what does ghost film have to do with religion? it is the overreaction to ban ghost related subjects that actually raise the topic to terrible level. the conductor and his friend will be in absolute fear because of the overreaction of government. in Asia (yes I mean Asia because Indonesia also caught multiple people who insult the president and police force in social media), government has high authority, unlike in US where ordinary people can badmouth the government as they wish in public. at the very least, irrational fans (oh boy they always exists) may literally kill the conductor and his friend if the truth is known after the government banned LSH without proper investigation. the government (with the crackdown of ghost subjects) will deal a much higher amount of punishment on the conductor to "kill the chicken to warn the monkey". oh boy, I think even you don't want to be in the muzzle of both fans and government in this period of time. for the record, I also feel bad for LSH because he has absolutely no connection and should not be judged by the government, media, and public opinion.

They way both of them causally ruined someone’s career and exploited someone’s tragic death… smh
@se-lene2 жыл бұрын
They didn't exploit the victim's death. Tv programs and other people who bought the ghost story did it. The woman and the train operator were just trying to lay low so he won't be fired. They are at fault too, but if the media wouldn't have started all the mess no one's career would have been destroyed nor a dead person's afterlife be disturbed. The sister of the dead woman was at fault too because she got involved with the journalists and the televised broadcast.
@luvswinwin2 жыл бұрын
@@se-lene I know that. I think the media, mostly, contributed to everything. But I feel as if the two knowing what’s going on around them and letting it continue to get worse, is pretty bad as well. Isn't this case a good example of the butterfly effect? Like seriously, such an innocent action led to a national scandal. I don't know if I can blame them because I'd probably do the same. Imagine doing a completely innocuous action that triggers a series of completely disproportionate events. ANYONE would be scared in that position. It's an interesting story that also says a lot about the human behavior. That unstoppable desire to link completely unrelated events just to make sense of reality. It sucks that innocent people had to pay the consequences tho.

The Korean mainstream broadcast media then wasn't any better than now. Rather than investigating and reporting on the truth, they decided to spin an entertaining story which went viral and just everyone else just ran with it. Think about how many stories they were able to pump out with different theories? Had they actually bothered to do a proper investigative journalism, they would have only gotten one boring story - "train engineer took his friend on a joyride" and that would have been it. You think the Metro management didn't know what really happened once they saw the video footage after it went viral? They'd rather not attract any bad publicity of having to admit that the train engineer let someone in on a joyride. If that means they have to just watch the mainstream media come up with ridiculous stories, they were willing to just keep quiet as long as no one really pressed them on the truth. This sort of tabloid like trashy journalism is still common in Korean broadcast media today.
