To me, the greatest thing EotE adds to OW (among a number of other things) is the scene in the Prisoners grave around the Campfire at the End of the Universe. As you approach the end of OW, "what you must do" feels inevitable, inexorable. The candles in the grave make it obvious that this is a _choice_ that you're making. _You_ are deciding to snuff out what remains of the old universe, including yourself. _You_ are doing what the Owlks not only refused to do, but tried to prevent. The Universe is ending, but it can cling to existence as long as the loop persists. OW already had a message of letting go, but the grave drives it home. (It's disappointing how many players rush through it without even noticing what's happening.)

Wonderful essay as well. Thanks for conveying your thoughts. Echoes of the Eye is such a gorgeous dance with grief, fear of both the unknown and our assumptions.

One of the saddest and most beautiful thing about outer wilds is that there's no happy ending. You just have to find it in the seemingly hollow, sad end. You aren't the winner, and the thing you tried to achieve is no longer to be. You are in a way, meaningless. But, you just embrass it. Is there meaning to embrassing it? Is there meaning to be happy when it leads to the same answer; end? Outer wilds answers that with this; end. It doesn't answer to give it a meaning. It doesn't end the story to answer it. It just ends. I think there can't be an "Answer" to anything in a manner that is not physical. And what i mean by that is that by our current understanding of universe, universe can't contradict itself because it IS. It's not thinking that it is, it just is. But we, as humans, can't think something that is true. We can agree on the fact that the thing in which you are reading right now is called "a comment", but like everything else we 'think about', it isn't an actual thing. Suppose there's an apple infront of you. It is an apple. But, it actually isn't. It is a group of atoms or whatnots composed into a form that in which we as human species recognize as apple. We can't think truth. We really, can't. Outer wilds's ending ended without answers. Sure, it did tell us that the eye of the universe is a thing that causes the big bang and creates universes, but it did not answer the question, or rather, the thing most of us craved; finite answer for us to understand. Do you see the pattern here? We want true finite answer that we understand, but the moment we "understand" the answer, it becomes false. It is not. It ISN'T. so does that mean we can't get the answer? The truth? The ending? The meaning? I believe that the answer to that question is this; yes. I am really sadden by the fact that there's really no satisfying way to end this because it is the point. But i guess it really is the point.

@@jacobxspencer thank you! And also, i really like the quote from the beginning of the video. It is really similar to the point i made which i found to be really cool. "The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience." That is a really nice take on this... subjective? 😀

Man I was about to send some rambling comment about how its a cautionary tale about clinging to nostalgia and grief but I'll just say this: EoE is talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it
