"You guys go on without me" "How could we" Another fucking heartbreaking final scene.

Small error in the introduction. It was not the mother who frightened the sisters in the car, but Nell, who once again interrupted an argument. As before with the overturned coffin. Poppy didn't even blink in the whole episode. In general, only Poppy is the one who drives people to suicide. She is the only evil spirit in the house. But one can't say that she's evil because she's just insane. She was already mentally ill during her lifetime and of course she is also in death. All other spirits are just as they were during their lifetime, just friendly. And as you could see from the old lady even helpful. The house, on the other hand, retains only the souls. And it plays/creats a reality that supports wishful thinking (Nelly) or supports Poppy by intensifying the planted thoughts with corresponding Vision (Mom). The rest are guilt, grief and unprocessed thoughts of the protagonists. These thoughts take care of the rest. You can't say the mother should have known when she was awake and when she wasn't. With all the crazy stuff the house shows her. You have to think that you are sleeping, because simply it can not be real. For the mother it was only a big nightmare and the best way to wake up from a nightmare is when you die in it. Anyone who has had nightmares usually wakes up at this moment of their own death. That's what the mother tried here. And because she loves her children, she also wanted to wake them up from their dreams. Especially since "her children" have also asked her to do so. If you look to the family to blame, the father is most likely to bear it. Because of his silence, nobody in the family could deal with and, unlike his mother, he did it with full awareness. To protect his children, but it was wrong. They couldn't deal with anything because of him and because of him the whole family couldn't leave the house behind. The show is just sick good.

The only thing that I would add is that she became "aware" that she was "sleeping" hence her trying to "wake up" yet she still listens to this "dream" person she doesn't know at all in her waking life. Hazel even tells her Poppy is a liar but she doesn't listen. And that comes back around to what I was saying in the beginning because she becomes aware that she is "dreaming" but listens to a figment of that dream she knows she does not know in the real world. There are some logical gaps in her approach which is why when I go on to talk about it towards the end of the video, I clarify I believe that it has to be a mix of Poppy's influence, be it gaslighting or supernatural allure/fog of mind, and her own mental illness but again that isn't explained and left up to interpretation. With dreams, once you become aware of a dream you can control the dream and navigate it freely. My other issue is that waking them up in HER dream won't actually help them unless she believes they all share the same dream but that's never clarified so her killing her child in her dream isn't the most logical step in actually freeing her kids. She would have to convince them outside of her dream to kill themselves within their dream. Which again makes me think that she's brainwashed or under a spell of the house because she shouldn't be coming to these conclusions on her own. I wouldn't put all the blame on the father though, this all started with Poppy from what we can tell. That set off a chain reaction from that point onward that the father only made worse by hiding things and leaving the kids to all try to understand their pain with little to no information on why they felt it or why it happened! God this show is so good!

@@Omn1Media It has to be said that the mother would have listened to the old lady if she had not been distracted by her family fleeing. Then Poppy sat right back in her head. The poor mom was just messed up. You still think of logical thinking. That is simply no longer possible. She was no longer aware of anything, at no time at the end. Everything is confused and you always come to the same conclusion. It can all just be a dream. Even the part where you think you've just woken up and see clearly again, turns out to be a dream. My worst nightmares are the ones I think I woke up in, but then everything repeats itself. Anyone who has already had this will be able to empathize with how terrible it is. Even if you are really awake, it takes a moment before you believe it. It is also bad when you know in the dream that you are dreaming and trying to wake up. Then wake up and still dream but then you don't know anymore. This is a brain fuck.

The show is so unsettling because even if you don't consciously notice the background our subconscious is probably picking it up giving us a feeling of unease.

Poppy was the ghost face that appeared over Nell in bed back in the first episode. The woman who took Abigale's hand was her grandmother, Mr. Dudley's mom. Abigale was a character in the original book. In the book Hugh Crane built Hill House and after the death of his wife he abandoned his children, leaving them to grow up in the house. Abigale ends up inheriting the house and dies (of natural causes) in the house. Her caretaker commits suicide by hanging herself from the spiral staircase. In the series Hugh ends up "abandoning" his children by not telling them what really happened.

So excited that you’ve finally seen a background ghost. There are many more through out the series. I also think that out of all the ghosts we see Poppy is the most malevolent because of how she influenced Olivia.

I think it’s so interesting how you mention being introverted and empathetic and then struggling with the feelings you have after watching stuff like this. I’m also verrrry introverted and pretty empathetic and I binged this show and was really fucked up for like an entire week haha. So I can definitely relate. And then you touched on the Mom’s fear at the end (loved the Star Wars comparison btw). I think all her irrational actions can absolutely be attributed to that fear. Poppy planted a terrible seed deep in her mind and then Liv just couldn’t get away from it. And when you’re ruled by fear you’ll do anything to keep from experiencing whatever it is that scares you. But of course, fear is also so often irrational and that’s what makes her story so tragic. In her desperation, she ensures that the very things she’s terrified of happening do happen. On a completely unrelated note, I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this yet, but I’m pretty sure the actor who plays young Luke also plays Billy in WandaVision and I’m kinda obsessed with that.

I’m also an empathetic introvert and am sensitive to energies. I think it isn’t uncommon for for those traits to combine.

There’s a case to be made that for the most part the house and specters in Hill House are passive creatures who merely observe and exist with the family. Ultimately the mother as Steve claimed did suffer from mental illness which played a huge part in her later actions. Perhaps the same extra sensory gift that she talked about was amplified within the house causing her visions. That paired with her depression ultimately led to the outcome we see. So was it ghosts, was it the house or was it mental illness? I think we are meant to think that it was all of the above

I am an introvert, and highly empathetic too. I have a really hard time binge watching dramas (I pretty much avoid them) but shows like this are perfect for me. If there is a supernatural or fantastical element to a show it helps. I may have to take breaks. Mike Flanagan's shows have that great mix, where they are serious, and I cry but I am also like "well shit I have to know what is going on" so I keep watching. They are all so well done. Your reactions are great, I hope you think about reacting to his other shows.
@dalton61733 жыл бұрын
Honestly I never thought about it until watching your reaction but Luke is the one who asked if Abigail or whatever her name is could come along so that probably also attributes to why he does drugs is because as a child he made a decision which led to the death of another child. I mean it took me multiple times watching it to even think about that so hopefully it never crossed his mind and hopefully he's just dealing with everything else on his plate but it sure did feel that way watching it with you this time around

They're very few shows that can get this emotional this fast. I just watched someone else react to the final episode of lock and key which was a good series don't give me wrong really good for what it was but even having a lot of similar elements of a family moving into a weird house where we're unexplainable things happen and both of them having slightly larger families things like that there's just so much that's done so elegantly about The Haunting of Hill House that really makes you invested from the get-go and you're able to have a super emotional season one ending that is usually reserved for season 6 endings where the show is canceled AKA Lucifer then again Lucifer's come back from the dead multiple times so you know grain of salt and all that
