The hope that came with the "human decisions can change," part was beautiful. Gave me tears. Noam is pure spring water in an ocean of suffering.

I think the message he's trying to get out is that we are all Noam Chomsky. We all have the power to change the world. Fearing his passing is kinda saying "I rely on you Mr. Chomsky to be the voice of reason for us all". In our everyday lives we have the power to make a difference. Some of us e.g. Edward Snowden, Julian Assange etc. have huge opportunities to make a difference through their exposure to highly sensitive materials. They risked their lives to expose evil (I am not a linguistics expert and I tried multiple different words to describe what they exposed: greed, violence, warmongering etc. evil was the best fit I could find that encompasses all of those words). In the final statements Noam was asked why be optimistic about all of this. I unfortunately have lost all of my optimism & can only see destruction but I have a need to leave a message before I die. The problem has been identified many times over. My concerns are what to do about it. Before we can address what to do I feel we need to identify one last question. Is the state of humanity right now innocently the result of our greed, or is there some force hidden from plain view that is attempting to manipulate the system, creating self-serving ideas and changing laws to suit that has set us on a path of destruction? This question is important because we all have a fight ahead of us to restore balance to humanity. If the forces we are fighting are ourselves and our own greed then education and the gradual recovery of our governments to be organisations that support all people should be our goal. If there are forces attempting to manipulate the system, then leaders of thought need to be prepared for personal attacks (such as the question of why Noam is so outspoken in areas outside his "field of expertise"). I recently discussed politics in reference to God with a Jehovas Witness who tried to tell me she was pious because she was going house to house & would discuss God with everyone, even the "lazy People". While she advocated God for all, she was of the opinion that some humans were lesser than others and deserved lesser access to resources and opportunity because they were "lazy". We need all humanity, every idea has value and rejecting any part of society or group is similar to raising a child that has every quality except . There is no complete personality without the presence of greed and anger as well as compassion and humility and all of those other traits identifiable as human. The challenge we face as individuals is to find balance with all of our traits. The only solution I can find to these world problems is through governance. Our government is the only organisation with the purpose of equitably sharing resources, and providing a level playing field for all people (geographically divided into countries containing citizens). BP won't care if you can't eat and just try complaining to the world bank that you think the systems are unfair. (My heritage is British / Asian and I identify more with Britain so I feel more comfortable talking about Kings of old etc.) In times gone by when Kings of the lands had absolute power, uprisings to restore the balance of power were violent and pretty much any human could take part. Weapons were easily manufactured, bow/arrows, swords etc. were readily available & armies that could rival the oppressors gave people the chance to fight for their freedom. Albeit a disadvantaged chance as no rabble is an equal match for a trained and well equipped army. VIOLENCE MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. In a nuclear world with weapons of mass destruction, this simple way of standing up for freedom is no longer a possibility and isolated acts of terrorism achieve nothing. Thankfully however, the sacrifices our ancestors have made has left us with a system that involves us all by the way of voting. We all have the power now to change the world in a peaceful way. I am trying to write a book at the moment that explains all these truths in a logical manner, with the intention of providing a set of rules, similar to the 10 commandments, for democratic, capitalist governments to follow, that will help restore balance by countering the temptations of greed in our elected officials. I have no complete answer yet, I'm struggling with depression and pessimism for the world. Some days I feel I don't want to help with a "let them all kill each other" attitude and I keep my observations to myself. Today I feel like sharing some parts of the solutions that I have identified: 1) Abolish (or at least severely limit) inheritance. Inheritance creates family dynasties. How can we as individuals hope to make a change when some families have more power through resources than entire countries? Imagine what playing the board game Monopoly would be like if you were able to inherit your winnings from each game you play and use it in your next game. Anyone wanting to play for the first time would have no hope of winning. 2) One Job per person, including representation on boards or committees. We know about conflicts of interest. Is it really reasonable to expect an elected official or businessman that is involved in conflicting capacities to always act in a pure manner? We don't tempt children by leaving the lolly jar full and easily accessible and adults are nothing more than older children. 3) Infrastructure should be owned by all (Government). Some services are simply not profitable. Not because they don't have the potential for profit but because they are basic needs required by all. I find pricing every day humans out of basic services to be an obvious problem and have no other way of explaining this except to say it's obvious. 4) Money should not make money. Money is a tool for sharing resources. This idea that we can earn money through investment is simply ludicrous. How is it we have a world where CEO's make millions of dollars per year when people who put their lives on the line to keep us safe make a pittance? Even worse, the possibility of investing and "becoming a self-made millionaire" (really, billionaire nowadays), is dangling a carrot in front of people and enticing them to turn a blind eye and keep the status quo. Sure the system has opportunities IF you have a great education, look somewhat attractive, have self confidence and are willing to push the boundaries of legality to make a buck. 5) Ban investment housing. The most basic requirement of every human is shelter. I'd like to see a caveman try keep control of all the caves on the west coast, demanding food in return for allowing whoever brings them the most the use of that cave. It wouldn't work in 10,000 BC, this is negative growth as a species. This is the same as my assertions in point 4 however I feel this is particularly a problem in society. I have a number of other ideas to fix this problem of inequality. I think we should all focus on humanity rather than profit. I'm a nobody. I'm not affiliated with any political party, I'm a swing voter, an Athiest (though I was raised Catholic), and I'm most likely wrong with a number of my ideas but I want to try. Fear of losing positions of power is driving the world to war and most of the populations of the world are unconcerned with anything other than making money in the hopes of an easy life. Life is hard. You can't expect an easy life or even to have most of the things you want BUT we all have a right to food, shelter and peaceful coexistence. Feel free to share these ideas but don't bother quoting where they came from, these ideas were built from observations of human behaviour and belong to all humans. Thanks for reading, Peace to all.

Yes, though "it's Chomsky," for the vast majority it's still just another social game to play. The laughter always gives them away. Some laughs are for Noam's ears (I get it, Noam!), others are for the audience itself (this is my position too, assholes), but most laughter is just the sound of people struggling to fit the irony in his words into their models of TV sitcoms or Harry Potter movies -- the world that they will instantly revert to as they emerge, stunned, into the streetlights.

About language, I found another puzzle that looks utterly relevant for operating nowaday's communication sciences, geopolitics, collaboration among cultures, future technologies, and practical life, as we meet people that are different from decades ago, when most parts of the world had a more homogenous populace. What is it? I found only one source so far, but this may be due to a practical language barrier, not finding sources e.g. in Chinese language, when lacking of Chinese education. books.google.at/books/about/The_Filipino_Mind.html?id=oa84MiiPLu4C This is about "geometric grammar" related to "geometric reasoning". But it is focused only on intercultural studies about Filipinos. The topic in fact must be much wider, when we look at geometric grammar first. Still, a great example to see things in an entirely different light, than of what I know about Western approaches in politics and science. This lesson (start with "being vs. becoming") uses terminology, notions and vocabularies virtually unknown in the West, I have already quarreled with some linguists. But it looks all very logical and enlightening, though written in some "oriental" style of English language itself. It must be official science probably in China, that was used in this book by Mercado. From the basic views, I reckon it has to be utterly useful in IT (AI, language processing, problem solving), in social sciences, and in politics. And it helps people to understand each others better.

you need all to communicate about that. about the trump voters, as asked by Massaro and explained by Chomsky, race, gender, religion, economic problems, but particular policies being the core of what caused the shift: Let me add "circularity" and anti-colonial tactics; you need to discover the synergy between Heinz von Foerster and Jose Rizal. the masses have quite some instinct. they felt the power-grabbing aspects of the neoliberal agenda, they felt that this was "illiberal" in the outcome, they felt they were victims of a neo-colonial mindset that treats now everyone not privileged, also on domestic ground, like colonial elites were treating those with a darker skin. those who held responsibility and power refused to share identity with those who were governed by them. therefor, people will elect a "man of our own kind". therefor, they will attempt to circumvent the elites and their "virtualized" and partially clandestine power games, by directly claiming power with the most illiberal guy on their own side. though they might get cheated by this guy quickly. but the systemic approach alone to them is worthy, to throw sand in the engine of the financial and corporate elites, which Trump did for some time, and perhaps will do a few times more.
@neovxr
@neovxr 6 жыл бұрын
take the opportunity, but take it wisely. listen to Rizal who tells: you can improve living conditions only when you earn it the hard and honest way. you need to improve quality of your own behavior, and of your own politics, and of your own environments. only this will generate the required substance for improvements.

1:04:00 - "I don't think the average voter understands that, at all." Your condescension is showing. Just because the average voter may not even know what neoliberalism is, doesn't mean they don't feel the economic pressure. Once one gets past the racist remarks that Bannon makes, he makes some strong criticisms of neoliberalism and 'bad trade deals', and speaks in a way the average person understands. See here if interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jonVl4JubrdqbtU I'm not a fan of Bannon, but it's not surprising that Sanders and Trump are popular.
