Landscapes play such a crucial role in water retention and hydrating the soil. Instead of channelling the rainfall straight into the seas and oceans and being surprised that they heat up, we should promote biodiversity that storages it.

Not as simple as that. Water “retention” easily causes landslides/mudslides and/or floodings.
