When you have everything you need, that no longer is the case. You dont have to treat anybody well because now they need something from you and you are aware of this. @meanderingmike76404 жыл бұрын
@Brian Fike i believe the intention of the comment is not being ungrateful for what you have, rather it is sad that it has become a norm for a person to work their entire lives, every waking moment , simply to just be alive. Destroying the actual gift and enjoyment of life, making one live to work rather than work to live.
@Brian Fike how is food a want? Food and housing is a necessity its not like their fighting to work their ass off to live in a mansion. They are fighting to live in a closet. I dont know what silver spoon you came from but you clearly havent experienced a struggle if that is your outlook.
@meanderingmike76404 жыл бұрын
@Brian Fike so being homeless and starving regardless that your working everyday is a choice, so if your working and nowhere will hire you to make more money, and all you can manage to buy is scraps from a dumpster, it is a choice to eat the scraps, no. At that point it is a necessity, a need. Not a want. Thats your outlook, interesting, well i wish you well bud, clearly your mindset on what a want/need is, is quite severely twisted and misguided. Surely if you ever happen to be in the same situation in life, hopefully you keep that same mindset so when your the one working just to eat, let alone thrive, somebody can look you in your face and say its your fault aswell.

In your opinion, who is making them? The government is providing council homes presumably much more than they earn, as they are in lots of national debt, the landlord is just trying to give them SOMETHING, rather than nothing, despite him risking being arrested. So just curious who/what are you blaming?
@monkeymind49123 жыл бұрын
The landlords of those places aren’t preying on people like Alan, they are providing him with something when the alternative is nothing. As they said, those high-density units are “illegally” divided into small sized units, but the government lets it happen because there is a massive housing crisis.

I appreciate the Asian families I see sharing space with their aging parents. It feels right to help them after they raise you.
@maywalker9973 жыл бұрын
It's not idealic. Huge strain can bear down on the family if they have to look after a relative who has dementia and incontinence. A lot of people want help with their elderly relatives but feel that it is not an option (socially or because they cannot afford it). If the government had not made it illegal to abandon elderly relatives, then there would be a lot more cases of it. The law also means that children are sometimes forced to look after abusive parents who were never there for them when they were young. Sometimes looking after elderly relatives is wonderful, but other times it is a nightmare. Many elderly people end up working long into old age to earn their keep. Sometimes it is the elderly who end trying to remedy glaring holes and social inequalities in the system, such as a lack of affordable childcare for children in a society with great wealth inequalities. There are many children whose parents have to work so hard to support everyone, that they have been almost solely raised by their grandparents and barely know their own biological parents. I think that people should only look after their parents if it's what both parties actually want, rather than because they have been forced by a combination of circumstances, social pressures, societal failings and the law.
@mungbean66933 жыл бұрын
Not all.families are wonderful. With abusive parents you really gotta move away for your own sanity
@alyahamzah19522 жыл бұрын
Im southeast asian. Its taboo to let your elderly parent/s live alone. Sending them to old folks home is also frowned upon akin to abandoning your responsibilities as a filial child. Society does not look kindly to adult children who are unfilial and are thought to be ppl who are cursed (not to sound dramatic) and generally not decent people.

Also, we consume so many products assembled by people like this living on a pittance crammed into these awful literal shoebox apartments with their relatives so corporations can save money and people can buy more crap they don't need.
@madmouse79892 жыл бұрын
This literally brought tears to my eyes because I literally took a two bedroom apartment I don't need instead of a one bedroom because it was available right away and it was only $20 extra a month compared to the one bedroom. Now granted I was up against time in terms of moving and if I hadn't of taken this place I would have had to tough it out on the streets for a month until the one bedroom was available, but NOTHING compares to what goes on in other places...I would have been safe. My spare room currently holds empty boxes and a tiny table lamp 🤦♂️. These people would be floored to see the space I have for the price I pay. Put it this way, I'm actually ashamed to admit I pay less rent than Alan and my bedroom CLOSEST is twice the size of his entire living space. I mean don't get me wrong I have other bills, but I could easily cut them or drastically reduce them if I chose to live without certain luxuries. This is exactly why I get frustrated with Americans who complain about not having enough stuff. Be grateful you have choices folks because many don't.

Fun fact: My Grandfather's family, when he was a kid, lived in a two or three story house on a hill overlooking the Hong Kong harbour pre-WWII. In the many family films they took you can see the whole of the harbour. There were just a few wooden ships. You can see labourers building wooden structures. The streets looked almost like a mini London with lanterns and signs like you'd see in any Chinatown. And hundreds of people strolling up the large main roads. Some out for a walk. Others carrying supplies on their shoulders. It was really a different world. Absolutely looks nothing like Hong Kong today. Then WWII hit, and my family had to flee the country. They lost the house and pretty much all the belongings left behind. The family films were some of the only things recovered.

@TheTardisDreamer3 жыл бұрын
@@gillallmond9145 That's true. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm honestly not sure where those films are being stored currently or with which family member :) I completely agree though. The films would be best kept in a public archive where they're safely stored and others can look at them too. Way safer then in a cardboard box somewhere gathering dust. We have other family films in an archive already for that reason. And it's worked well. They actually ended up getting used in a documentary series here.
