This story is literally about a guy trying to fix another guy's heart, they even have some scenes blushing (not always, but sometimes is out of love). It's not that hard to think they are gay. And if you're so bothered by other people's opinions because of "guessing the end" perhaps you shouldn't read the comments, that are made for sharing opinions.

Oh jeez. I think the ending is being overlooked. My theory is that the girl selling the hearts, the girl we see in the hospital bed at the end, is actually very sick and in need of a heart transplant. Being confined to her room, she created a fantasy world to escape from her grim reality and writes it down in her book. The heartsmith is actually the donor who’s heart will be given to her and by writing these stories she is forever immortalising him and though he may be forgotten after his death, she will always remember him. On a similar note, the doctor, the husband in the story, has had his heart frozen by being surrounded by the ill/dying (the girl overheard a colleague mentioning that the doctor was engaged, so she worked it into her story). By giving his heart away, the heartsmith/donor has also repaired the heart of the doctor. Does anyone else agree with me?

It's an allegory for blood donation. The Heartsmith is donating blood (pieces of his heart). The cake is the food that they give donors after the process. At the end of his life, he donated his heart to a young girl.

Ok so here's what happened. A young girl was in need of a heart transplant (The young girl selling hearts) At 3:45 You can see the "heartsmith" said the young girl was selling hearts even though she didn't have one of her own. She replies saying "none of these hearts fit me" I believe those hearts are representing her heart that needed to be taken out through surgery and be replaced (Heart transplant;Heartsmith) In the end of the comic the same girl selling hearts was shown to be in the hospital, this is how we make the connection that she needed a new heart. This is where the heartsmith comes in. The heartsmith is the organ Donner who's heart was transplanted into the girl's body to save her life. We know this because the heartsmith "gave his heart" to the young girl near the end of the comic, as she did not have one. (Figuratively) Where the first person comes in, i'm not too sure. We can tell he is the doctor near the end of the comic, but i'm not too sure how his character fits into play. The way I see this comic, we have a girl who has gone under a heart transplant, and she made up a story in her mind about a "heartsmith" who gave his heart to her, because she needed one. She says nobody remembers the heartsmith, even the ones he helped. I mean really, do we ever remember the names of organ Donner? It's kinda sad when you think about it. In the end, I think this story can be interpreted in different ways, but this is what I got out of it. I hope I didn't overexplain anything lol. Hopefully this helps out for understanding what the comic was trying to convey. It really is a work of art once everything clicks. I got hit like a truck once I connected the dots at the end.

Olivia Bytner It could be, but in all honesty im not too sure about that part of it. The girl selling hearts may be a metaphore to having her own heart removed for the surgery, but I'm not too sure. And like I said, im still trying to figure out how yhe doctor plays in all this. I know the girl pointed the doc to the heartsmith/donner, and that may be metaphor fpr the doctor finding the right donner, but then that begs the question, why did he need his heart to be repaired. Again, I think the doc can be interpreted in multiple ways, but my best guess is the doc going to the heartsmith was a metaphor for him finding the right donner for the girl.

I agree with what some other people pointed out. The heartsmith is a donor who is forgotten by all but the person who he gave his heart to. The doctors callus heart was touched by the story. And I feel like the little girl “selling” hearts was another donor who if she didn’t get a transplant in time would have donated her heart to others. Such a deep and sad story ❤

So the heartsmith loved the man and gave him part of his heart. The man was getting married so he gave up and gave the last of his heart to the girl. I didn't sign up for these DAMN FEELS!!! But this was beautiful and now i rewatch.

....no...it's exactly what @ImaginationEmpire said....the man who was getting married didnt love his fiance. the heartsmith helped him fill his heart with love and the heartsmith fell for the man as well. When he finally repaired the heart the man tells him its for his fiance. The heartsmith is broken hearted and now that he has no one to give his heart to, he gives it to the little girl who needs it.

It's been years since I first watched this. No matter how many times I watch anything else, this has and always will be my favorite video on KZbin. It brings me so much joy and happiness just to see this video, I'm not sure why it does but damn does it. I relate to the heartsmith quite a bit, like how he burdens himself just to help others. I can't get this out of my head. For 3 hole years it has helped me remember there is good in the world, though I may never find it, it's still there.

This is my teory for all those who love deep storys The girl who was selling hearts is acully represending giveing her love and care for others while not being able to love herself (the hearts doesnt fit her/she think she is not worthy of love she give to others) and she is not geting love back fom others (people are passing her by and she is supprised at the fact that he wanted to give her his heart ,due the fact it was the first time she recived love back she never forget it ). The boy in the shop who was fixing broken hearts is also giving his love and support to others but never reciving love back ( it was the first time he recived a cake. People who he help doesnt remember him) when he recived love back from him he realised he fell in love but knowing the other person doesnt love him that way and knowing that person already have a special someone he dicided to hide and not tell his feelings while doing his best to give him all love and support. When thay person disapired from his life he is left boken not able to fix himself while still finding simpaty for others (giveing his heart to that girl/ giveing her love cause he knows she doesnt rechive any love from others or herself). In my point of view what this story is really about is that many time someone gave up on their own happiness and wishes for others but even after all that person have done for others no one really remembers it but in the end there are few people who would remember you no matter what.
