A lot of people call them buggy brakes, but they're really metal tips for the carriage shaft. When you unhook the carriage from the horse the two shafts would be on the ground so the metal tips protect them from damage. Another great video, glad you survived the blazing hot day!

Given the heat and dry conditions of the soil, you guys did well. I'd bet serious money that when you return late in the year or next spring, cooler temps and moist ground will yield a lot more great finds- unless several people hunt it before you go back! Nice vid!

What a beautiful home and property, but that barn. 😍😍 I just love old barns. When we bought our place, I told hubby, “ the barn is mine” 😂 Years ago the barn was a “Mail Drop” from the RR, then it would go to the old grocery store on the other side of the tracks. Now it is the home for 3 goats and a handful of barn cats. 😂

🎶Mad dogs and metal detectorists go out in the mid-day sun🎶. Nice terret ring Rich. Many moons ago I found a small hoard of four Iron Age bronze ones. The guides on them are deep-furrowed from extensive rein wear. Two are quite "ornate", all are a wee bit smaller than yours. I still have them, they're cool I think.

Silver coins, indian heads, jewelry and relics make for a well rounded hunt! It's impossible for 1 person to know what everything is that comes out of the ground. It's a never ending learning experience. I would have never known that was a belt flag holder.

The problem with homesteads is, that a lot of earth was moved during the time, and lots of stuff is buried deeper now. especially for the graspatches to level everything etc. But you can still find awesome stuff with some luck.

I recently dug a crotal bell in a privy out here on the west coast, how can I date it?, it appears to be brass and looks like the bells you find with the petals, definitely a "late throw" as the pit was 1905-1910ish.
