This isn't even second lead syndrome. It's straight up the fact that Yeong Do was amazing. He's so vulnerable in his scenes with Eun Sang. He tries to act cool and nonchalant, but at the end of the day all he wanted was for someone to love him. He deserved so much better than an unrequited love. He's also such a unique k-drama character. His character progression throughout the drama was admirable, he never changed (he always had a good heart) he just needed to heal his wounds. But like also, HOW COULD YOU REJECT YOENG DO FOR VANILLA-CLICHE KIM TAN?! Like how?!?! I wish there was Heirs 2 all about Yeong Do's story and future.

I pity him, but it was rewarding that towards the end of the drama, he finally meet his mom and perhaps everything will change for the better. This drama is so beautiful and all the actors are good. 11yrs later and I’m still hooked as if this kdrama was just released yesterday. And I had fun reading comments about how Eun Sang chose Kim Tan over Choi Yeong-do. I love Yeong-do, but I understood why Eun Sang chose Kim Tan over him. Eun Sang met Kim Tan way before he met Yeong-do. And he met Kim Tan in a very special circumstances and in her dream place. Nothing could beat that. Kim Tan protected her in one of her most vulnerable states. Alone in the US with no one to lean on. With little money and without her passport, Kim Tan offered her a home and security. They run together and almost died together. They saw each other vulnerabilities (Eun Sang when her sister got all the money she brought from Korea and Kim Tan while he was begging for his brother’s love). And even if Yeong-do met Eun Sang first, she wouldn’t actually fall for him for the way he treated her first (though Eun Sang didn’t know that he was protected by Yeong-do when she first slept in the convenience store). While Kim Tan at their first meeting, though was a little bit rude, drove her home to her sister’s apartment, didn’t actually left and eventually offered her home. I don’t think Yeong-do, even if she was nice to Eun Sang from the moment they knew each other, could beat the special bond Eun Sang and Kim Tan had in the US. Plus, Kim Tan was crazy in love with her. She was Kim Tan’s everything. He defied everything just to have her. Protected her at all costs. I mean, if I was Eun Sang, I would choose Kim Tan a thousand times over Yeong-do. But yeah, my heart breaks for Yeong-do. But I do not think she deserves Eun Sang. He deserves someone who will put him first, who will rush to answer her phone when he calls (😂). In another universe, I hope a beautiful ending is written for him.

I also felt bad for yeong do but we cannot forget the fact that he did bully the girl in very subtle ways. Tripping her so she falls, throwing her in the pool , constantly making her feel awkward by asking her so many uncomfortable question. I know he had a hard upbringing and didnt know any other way to show love but it is not her fault. If i were at the place of that girl, i would have also liked kim tan who was nice to me from the start. I think yeong do also realised in the end that he couldnt get eun sang becausw of his behaviour. Yeong do was a nice guy from the inside but he needed to be nice from outside too.
