You could watch a Smite game and see bans happening rapidly for discussing something (like a bug or DQ) while their commentators were discussing the same thing at the exact time. @1:00 Thats me lol. Was a great experience. Whole issue started due to steam servers crashing, causing a chain reaction within the Helldivers 2 servers. Everyone got booted and couldnt connect back to steam for a few mins. Therefore, people started spamming F. I only noticed this video because a friend notified me that my Discord name was posted in a video and he sent the video and screenshot to our friend group. So all 8-9 of us watched this lol. Personally If I were a mod, I wouldve capitalized on the situation by telling everyone to to press F for all the troops we lost during the anomaly that spread across the galaxy (in a specific channel). More interactive way to play with the community rather than acting like your typical glorified hallmonitor.

For anyone that does not know: In the helldivers 2 discord chat, people were spamming f and it got to the point where a mod pinged everyone and threatened a timeout and even a lockdown. Obviously though, this is discord and if a mod pings everyone to not do something, they are going to do it. This obviously led to a whole lockdown on the server and people in the server were clowning on the mods. This would then lead to the community manager deleting the helldivers 1 server in anger and the mod who threatened the lockdown went on twitter and called everyone who supported the spam nazis. Shortly after, a new community manager was hired. Discord is truly something else lol.

Remember that game allows people like that to micro manage with your ongoing game, they did help female streamer/presenter by droping items to her to help her beat giant bug, so they have capability to frick your ongoing game up without you ever knowing it was them. Not like that was never abused.

How to actually moderate that: temporarily remove the write permissions to non mods, send message, make a "f for the servers that died" channel, delete the existing f in other channels. Automod just sending f to auto delete and warn in other channels. And add like a 15 min slow chat before reopening the channels. (Reduce the slow mode to like 30s once things die down) Alternatively a generic long term way to avoid banwagoning is unironically robot9000 mod (messages that are duplicate will be removed and offending people will be muted for a time that goes exponentially) it can be adjusted to only use messages from the past week/day or something, and a heuristic can be used to avoid the common workaround of adding random stuff at the end.

Real moderation is *_No._* moderation, it's a discord chat. Spam is _inevitable_ the most you do is a 5-minute chat limit, I cannot foresee any banning, or moderator action from simply chatting.

@@E.V.A.N-COProductions discord servers are private chats, if some people are rowdy they may be considered funny or may be considered annoying depending on who observes it. I think in that case directing the "funny" spam to a dedicated channel is a good way to keep it while not flooding the general chat, that takes into account that spam is inevitable, and funnels it to somewhere where it's encouraged. Also no moderation leads to actually interesting conversations being pushed out most of the time, just because it's not sustainable through spam, and even more if you do absolutely no moderation, you're just gonna get nazis and people who think nazis are funny.

I said no moderation is best when dealing with spam. There are clear differences where moderation is needed and when it isn't. In this case, it isn't.

And it's still private, if there's a group of people shouting in a Walmart they can definitely be kicked out or asked to move somewhere less annoying.
