the hermits cave along the River Liffey, I had no luck finding any photos or videos of this place after such a large area sounding it had been named after it,so many stories , legends and poetry about this place.
so I began to look into this, the video tells the story of how I set about looking into how to find this place,
helped by old story's , local knowledge and a want to find this legends origins, I set off on my way greatful by information given by people and confused by the contempt of a few others ,just even for me to ask questions.
my video is is a record of my journey and hopefully creates interest , and hopefully may bring more positive knowage and out come from others.
I don't recommend trying to go to this spot, I had permission, and took the risk of injury so you don't have.
Thank you for joining me,I know it was a long video.
Did you watch till the end?
special acknowledgement

fair play for searching for that, I'm from up the road in clonsilla and read about the same story in the folklore collection, be interesting to see if its connected with the other prehistoric and medieval sites between lucan and castleknock along the liffey

Thank you very much. I spent some time a few years ago looking into things like this. Few videos I dibe still posted on my channel I think. I don't recall as much aa I one did, but there was indeed alot different time scale history between Castlerock, battles , prehistory sites. Mills but water and wind. You probably know there was a bronze age burial site in Millennium Park, near were the dog run is, also one in golf couse in castleknock golf club. Haven't been myself last few years and have lost the knowledge, but if you go looking you'll find it

Found that cave about 30 years ago … never wanted to disclose the location. I cleaned up a load of beer cans a few times beside it. There used to be a scout hall on the hill before the hospital was built… we used to go in that way

Great video pal, am interested to go down myself and have a look. You can down down to Waterstown park in Palmerstown and walk under the toll bridge and all the way down to the Weir so will continue on and try find the cell next time I’m there! Also, there’s the old mill in Palmerstown down in Mill Lane at the far end of the pitches. It’s a really rewarding walk. Loads of old man made stone dwellings (I’m guessing these are the actual Mill that the name Mill Lane comes from) Well worth the adventure!

I feel your relief in finding it Mick. persistence sometimes pays off.I live very close by.. might have a wonder someday. or maybe you saved me the danger..very interested myself about the few bits and pieces I did find when researching..thanks again 💯. been to the one in Pearse Park rathfarnham.. but I still think the one at the liffey has more mystery to it.. 💙👍

Indeed and Alot longer history. There is amazing history along the River as Vally. The old school story's are fantastic, even if there is added mits to some. But I do enjoy looking into them . I had never been to The park in Rathfarnham, until I learned about it while doing this from a few helpful people,I must say I loved it . I look forward to going back and doing a video of it. There are a few more things I am looking into along the River Liffey valley and soundings areas so hopefully they will be of interest. Thank you very much.

There is a easy way than the way I went. I followed the old storys and went from the golf club ,there are two ways both I do not recommend them, the best way I didn't know than is down to the Weir from the hospital or along mill race ,walk towards the lad were the fence which is broken at the Liffey and around it there. But it is private land ( just saying) I guess that's the way people did the graffiti on the cliff face

, very helpful information Mick.. and I think I know exactly where you are speaking of. I venture down there very often myself, I love the whole length of the liffey..I'm originally from rathfarnham Village myself., so I have a fairly good knowledge of that area also.. if you ever need a bit of guidance.. thanks again for all the information and great videos.. Keep at it Mick.. 💯🇮🇪👍

Just wondering if you can get to this from the hermitage hospital or are you allowed?

As far as I know you can get to it thow the hospital, if the fence at the Liffey hasn't been repaired, I never went this way myself, I got permission from the golf club and went that way.

Thank you very much ,happy you enjoy the page. I wouldn't recommend going on your own, parts where you could fall,so be careful. There was some camp site on the hospital side when I went ,some time back,so not sure is someone was living there or people having over night party, cans, and remains of a fire. Just be careful which ever way you do go and have you phone etc
