There are some perks that see absolutely no use that could be fun, but BHVR is too busy with making new chapters to sell and cosmetics. I mean, sometimes you dont need to buff underutilized ones because they are simply good already. You dont need to buff Left Behind. It does exactly what it says on the tin and you dont really need a bigger range either as there are plenty of locations on maps you can hide to discover hatch. Sometimes, all that is needed to shake up the meta is just nerfing the overpowered perks and adding a downside to overutilized perks. In fact, all they need to do, is add +25% bloodpoints post-game for top 10 least used perks and a -20% bloodpoints post game for top 10 most used perks and scale accordingly (like the next 40 perks being 10/15%). That way, people have a reason to use or not use certain perks. Learn how to use them to their advantage and the devs get much much more data and feedback on what people actually are feeling is wrong with those perks. As an example, Flip Flop is an absolutely awful perk for what it does. It's anti-slug, but not really since there are only 2 places where you'd have to be slugged for 30 seconds to be able to wiggle out. You need other perks to either speed up the self-recovery, slow down the killer while walking (or have a teammate increase the wiggle speed) and hope the killer drops down a little while using Boiled Over. Anti-slug perks should be threatening enough that a killer doesnt want you left on the floor. And Flip Flop, in my opinion, would need a 75% conversion rate. That way, if the killer just slugs a little bit to create pressure, its fine, but if he slugs for the sake of slugging, they are very likely gonna wiggle out.

I think one of the main reasons why BHVR makes kills take priority over hooks for MMR purposes is because non-sweaty people who find their fun in using the "giga-chad playstyle, 8 hooks before any kills" (trademark Scott Jund) will be thrown against insanely sweaty comp-level Survivors that will prevent them from actually playing in a fun way and will further promote sweaty playstyles (proxy-camp & tunnel). Farming/Friendly/memeing Killers would be unable to play like this eventually since they often get 8 hooks per game but have 0 kills which would pit them against competitive Survivor that would no longer play along. I'm not saying it's a _good_ thing necessarily, however it's one of the reasons I can see that would justify a system like this; people who don't sweat and seldom get 4ks will remain in a more casual environment while sweaty competitive people going on win streaks will end up against like-minded people.

Back in the day when I actually played this game, I would actually just go for hooks on purpose. I would shoot for 2 hooking everyone before actually securing the kill. Because I was able to shift my philosophy it really helped my overall experience just playing the game how I wanted. Although, it kind of artificially began to put me against lower skill players sometimes because my MMR would get reduced after getting a 8 or 9 hook game for example. But tbh my lobbies were very volatile anyway due to matchmaking. Idk it was a weird thing. And I still randomly had games I felt were totally impossible.

Balancing things needs to be used as a deliberate way of encouraging interactive and diverse playstyles. A lot of obsession perks, for example, could be perfectly balanced but make the game unfun due to their incentivizing tunneling either the obsession or increasing the chance to tunnel the same survivor by ignoring the obsession. Perks like Remember me that do not affect the obsession at all practically force you to kill a certain player early, and dying due to being "marked" randomly is not fun for survivors. I believe Behaviour needs to keep perks that encourage interactive play and counterplay at the highest level of performance, while making other perks weak, situational to leave them as meme/variety choices for people such as the dev Almo who was shown and should have the ability to enjoy his more niche type of fun, but simply not at the expense of the general playerbase's enjoyment and health of the core gameplay. Card games do this with uninteractive decks so DbD can certainly do this with playstyles but they need to have the courage to use the dev talent in their team toward this goal rather than simple spreadsheet numbers.
@Lovyxia5 ай бұрын
It really feels like there's talent in the team that leadership positions are very simply suppressing. 2v8 being some of the most fun I've had because it had the bravery of touching some core gameplay elements and changing them rather than adding band-aids really gave me the impression that it's something where the talent was allowed to be creative in this otherwise stale and flawed game that could be so, so much more than it is. Bad management is just so standard in games and it sucks and breaks my heart everytime I see the glimpses of talented people shine through for only mere moments.
@jboysalem13885 ай бұрын
they couldve fixed it if they have data and added leaderboards on most avg chased time, avg down time, most kills, most save/support, most escape, most gens, And overall playstyle. with that overall data leaderboard implemented on mmr then people will compete very well and change the meta to get the most score.

It is just wild that they tried to simplify it so much. When I was watching competitive DBD tournaments, the game was so wildly in the Survivor's favor that it seemed like Killers needed these tools just to keep up or else they would be snowballed. Then you go into pub matches and the Killers are reigning supreme against your average SWF, let alone randos. DBD simply can't be balanced to make both populations happy. Through the virtue of how the game has been fundamentally designed, there likely isn't a solution that will work for both. Pick a target group and lean into making the game more fun for them. In this case, pub matches hold the largest amount of potential revenue and the highest chance of keeping the game alive, so it is better to balance the game around them. Encouraging kills with no chance of survivor interaction does the opposite. Overcorrecting and creating an environment where Killers will never be able to wipe a lobby will also do the opposite. There has to be a middle-ground somewhere and it is on the devs to figure that out. I don't know if they can do that without making some big fundamental changes. At least, not without what Dowsey said in the video, bringing innovation to the game. Imagine if the game was more than just "Holding Interact" simulator on generators? What if there were "minigames" where you had to interact with the map to find parts that would allow you to complete an "escape objective" that isn't just randomly pressing a skill check, that isn't really a skill check? What if first hooks were guaranteed to never die on hook, and instead would eventually be able to just pull themselves off regardless of how close the Killer is? Second hooks could never die, but could also not pull themselves off. Third hooks are death as they are now. These changes would deter campers and it would prevent sweaty gen rushing, at the very least.

My problem with hooks > kills for MMR, is that tombstone Myers stomps beginners, therefore works really well and gets 4 kills with 0 hooks, therefore doesn't increase the MMR. That means that same Myers player won't face stronger survivors capable of countering the strategy, ever. They'll just continue stomping beginners. Same with Iri camping Huntress, camping Bubba, etc. Those strats work at lower MMR, but they work way less consistently at high MMR. If those killers' MMR don't go up, they'll just continue stomping beginners forever. Increasing their MMR is the way to make survivors able to counter them and punish the killer with harder matches. For killers, I really do think kills is the best way to decide MMR. I do agree for survivors MMR, the middleman is important.

Sbmm/mmr is the biggest mistake they made in this game. I mostly play as a survivor, but the chase level is average, my knowledge is really good, but I usually play meme-builds, I want to relax. So after playing against mostly sweaty killers who tunneled, slugged, proxy camped, I was so angry that I decided to lose all my games from that point on, except for finding the hatch. And imagine the look on my face when nothing changed, and after a while one killer wrote to me in the post-game chat that he felt sorry for my experience, but me losing won't change anything, because if I go through the mmr soft cap, I won't drop. So I think from now on I'm doomed to lose most of my games forever, even if I try to win, until they change something about it. Lately I've been playing more as a killer, and maybe that's what I should do... Greetings from soloq player

Honestly for me the most annoying thing is that BHVR keeps changing things that _no one complained about_ or change things that people _do_ complain about but go way too far (recent example: Ultimate Weapon, went from a good tracking perk to arguably one of the worst perks in the game). Another example is how, mostly because of 3-gen Dull Merchant and Knight players, they limited regression which indirectly made every regression perks except the two strongest ones (Pain Res & Pop, the latter having been recently further nerfed into being a meh perk because reasons) obsolete and a possible liability due to low return for a limited resource, this greatly reduced perk variety since perks activated by kicks were also affected by this and as such had a set limit to their value now. This also hurt weaker Killers much more due to them needing more slowdown if the Survivors know what they are doing. All those things, alongside the severe nerfs to some of the stronger chase perks (STBFL, Sloppy etc.) are directly responsible for the tunnelling increase, and decreased Killer and perk variety, that started in 7.5.0.

(referring to if sbmm were based on hooks not kills) so itd be hard to say what that would look like. if theres just nicer killers going 12 hook instead of proxy camping or tunneling id say thats nicer even if it were the better way to play but like honestly i prefer how it was before when it was just "how much youve played this season"
