Maxime if you see this, i want to tell you that probably you have the hardest tournament and you make it the best one. Win or not you are a hero or more, congrats man.

He had the confident and he proves it outright! Well deserved 😊 His counterattack also brilliant, a fencer with flair^^ France have some good future in sabre now with Apithy as senior and Pianfetti & Bibi as a potential future

Just when you think you've seen it all, someone else raises the bar a little bit higher. I am beyond impressed with Maxime Pianfetti. Never count anyone out, for this is true potential realized on full display. Champion in my mind, always. ✊

It's rare but they both deserved the Gold medal imo. Outstanding performance from both of them. Alas there can be "only one" :D

These highlights are very interesting as they show the variety in Pianfetti's game. We've seen him do a lot of this prime prise-de-fer engagement on the flunge which confuses everyone (see previous Slicer video) but this really shows the variety, that's almost the full set. He can attack on prep in the middle, he can parry-riposte, he can hit a (very Honeybone-esque) stand up stop cut to head. He has a GREAT distance pull and he's extremely unpredictable. Look at the highlights vs Samele, he has no idea what he's going to do off his preparation. Very unlucky not to be world champion, (both 13--11 and 14-14 distance pulls called correctly IMO). Looking forward to seeing more of this fencer.

I thought both distance pulls should’ve gone to Szilagyi. I don’t think there was really any difference between the two hits. And if it’s based on the idea that the attack should land before the foot, well then that hasn’t been called in sabre for ages.

@@catlikearcher9955 It is based on the attack ending when the foot lands and that's always called in sabre? The exception is if a composite attack (attaque composée) draws a parry and then hits in another line immediately after the foot lands, then it's given for the attacker, but that doesn't apply in either touch here as Pianfetti doesn't attempt to parry. In the first one at 13-11, Pianfetti has pulled out a bit further, so it's clearer that the initial attack is no, but in the second one, he's closer and the attack lands at the same time IMO.

No way Pianfetti didn't have the hardest bracket. He had to fence Kim Junghwan, Kim Junho, Luigi Samele, AND Aron Szilagyi in one competition. Not to mention if we were going based off of consistency, he should've won the last touch as well based off the call at 13-11. Dude is a rockstar and definitely has a bright future.

I love the attack on prep action where he makes them hesitate with his action and then finishes like at 4:12

Has an ex high level French Sabre fencer I knew Maxime and I always found him arrogant and but to have the balls to call that! And I have to admit that would never saw that coming! I Hope at least he settle down on the piste since we last met 🤣

the actions were the same with a score of 13-11 and 14-14, only the judge gave blows where he wanted and what he liked more
