Full Documentary Soundtrack Here: • Japanese Playing Cards...
Play-In Games delivers the most complete and exciting look at the deadly past of Japanese playing cards. From the first forbidden decks smuggled in by Portuguese traders, to the many secret card types that came and went under the radar, this episode covers it all. Explore how these cards survived government bans, fueled underground gambling, and evolved into stunning Hanafuda decks, before leading to the rise of Nintendo.
This is not just a story of cards-it’s a tale of dangerous rebellion, forbidden games, and the cultural journey that made Nintendo a global powerhouse. If you think you know the history, think again-this is the most thorough exploration of how playing cards shaped Japan’s gaming culture and laid the foundation for Nintendo’s legacy.

God I fucking love this channel so much. The high quality production is one thing, the niche topics are what tickles my heart.

You should make a video on how to play Koi-Koi! It is played with Hanafuda (Flower-Cards) and its actually fairly similiar to Scopa! I recently bought Hanafuda after i looked around for them a lot. It was hard but worth it! I really recommend Koi-Koi , its a fun game! A mixture of Poker and Scopa!

minor critique- when i thought you finished presenting the intro (0:32), you moved to another section that seemed like an intro (which ends at 1:30), and then another intro section after that. this constant re-emphasis of the intro ironically diluted the preview and had me unsure what to expect from the video (in a negative way). great editing though, vid looks incredible!
