Many forget that the human story can sometimes be quiet as mice while other entities have their aeon in the sun. The plains states were for a long time the home and a haunt of the largest reptilian races of the worlds creature history. So not much human input those days I feel. The north and western areas were the target range of meteoric archer entities for a long long time as well, leading me to assume that the humans history there as well had a quiet spell. The east coast became exposed to air in its current form not long ago with much of the oldest North American human story to be told of the Great Lakes area and relative Canadian lands there. I imagine that this was the only relatively safe and usable land for the early human story in the states. I have yet to find a “First Nations” group that I think was ever “from” here. That’s not an insult as I am 35% supposedly of 3 “kinds of injun” only I know my specific lineage branches and they have been documented for over 3000 years. When the paper says “Cherokee” it means the Germanic tribe of Cherusci (Etruscan/scot which will read as “welsh, Irish or Scottish on DNA reports.) when it says “Algonquin” it means Alchon Khan of the Golden Horde Tibetan-Swiss-German and will read German or Swiss etc. it’s a mess by design. Only I’ve unraveled a lot of it for the purpose of reigniting the dignity of knowing one’s self through kissing the face of our ancestors. The word god control freaks of our past separated us from our bones. (ßÖñ) The coming age will see horses with their riders again

It's really refreshing to watch this. It is the history of Native Americans that doesn't center around the invasion. It is also great to hear the native languages spoken in the scenes, unlike other documentaries where a British accented man explains Native phrases in a foreign accent. I have watched this 3 times thus far. I wish this was touched on in school. It was completely ignored until the European encounters kicked off.

This is a beautiful documentary I shared with my parents. I've always been curious about ancient civilizations, especially those that were lost completely because they were also highly advanced. Most were destroyed by invaders with their texts and history. The loss of real history through time and conquest is sad. This documentary is very well put together, best I've seen in a long time. Great research.🙏

In the 19th century, the USA exterminated another kind of red menace, writing and shredding treaties, stealing lands, massacring them and herding the native population into concentration camps, (Indian reservations), all in the name of "civilizing the savages". By 1890, with the massacre of the Lakota at Wounded Knee, the total slaughter rose to well over 150 million. The frontier land grab, and internal imperialism - was over! There was a world to conquer, and the USA trained its exceptionally covetous eye, on Cuba, and the Philippines, and just like that - American external imperialism, was born.

Though there may be exaggerations or possibly some pieces that are left out in this video, it’s a reminder that we should never look back at the past with scorn or the attitude of “so primitive” regardless of where in the world you’re describing. Just want to add a comment to some people that want to claim they are natives.... first of all you have to be indigenous blood native blood from your mother and your father born here thousands of years ago and if you are of European blood and migrated here from Europe your father and mother being of European blood during the invasion from the Spaniards Europeans and the 1620 Mayflower white immigrants you're not native even if you're born here after that time you are a immigrant by nature.. For instance like me I come from native indigenous blood my mother and father were indigenous natives so I am a native of this whole continent...... I love this program...I became interested in the subject of the indigenous people after reading the Journals of Lewis and Clark from the 1805 expedition of the "new lands" purchased by President Thomas Jefferson from France. In their journals, they speak of the VAST numbers of clans, or tribes, that they encountered from large groups "nations" down to small clans of 12 or so. AMAZING to read, because this information is not really taught in our "Western" schools...its a shame, because it is so interesting and wonderful...as any history of any people is!...yes, including the European history.

Interesting that you brought up Finnish and the word we have for stone which is "kivi". I was just today reading about our mythology about giants that turned to stone and which now lie as the mountains of the North. Then I started watching this documentary and when I heard the Inuit language, I was amazed at how it sounds like some distant form Finnish. Very interesting. It really does seem the North was connected in prehistoric/pre-recorded times. And we have lost that knowledge in my country. They mainly talk about Greek/Roman/Mesopotamian history in schools and in literature.

The only thing you get to learn how great the us is in both us and world history. Whereas I’m Asia, Africa and the Middle East you get to learn about everything. This first part 'Before 1491' might be of interest to our project called democracy as it tells of the origins of the Iroquois Confederacy, which so impressed Immanuel Kant (1782-1804) who wrote out a plan for cooperation amongst nations upon which the League of Nations and United Nations was conceived. Apparently the Iroquois were matriarchal or matrilinear. The shaman lady is consulted and leads them. This is I believe the origin of the clichéd "Hiawatha," - Ayanwatha, who went into the forest like a rishi or a buddha. A solar eclipse helped - this was in 1142. So for hundreds of years the Iroquois Confederacy endured until the coming of the Europeans.

Ochre is or used to be widely used in India. I have seen it in southern India, it was used to paint houses, when they were mud houses, in stripes. Also in temples, and in rangoli to decorate pottery, front yard of the house too. Used during ceremonies of marriage in villages.

@No Donkeys ummm it's not where the term red skins come from... It comes from the fact indigenous Americans have a copper color unlike the rest of the world that gave a red hue...

@No Donkeys come to think of bronze age copper mines, Great Orme of copper mine in Wales, U.K dates back to bronze age too, and researchers suggested the largest copper mine of bronze age, dug by hands and tools like bones and flint, supplying copper to bronze age European countries like France, Netherlands, Germany Sweden. Bronze age mine was discovered in 1987, when Victorian mine was being prepared so that a car park could be built on that site. Now a museum stands on the site, showcasing items discovered by archeologists.

@No Donkeys You know that Great Lakes copper transport to Europe is not true. It’s not good to make such claims as a joke as some people believe whatever pseudoscientific claims they see or read on KZbin..

Wow, such an amazing documentary. This is stuff you don’t learn about, unless you seek it out yourself. I’ve always been fascinated by Egyptian history. Native American history is now close second. I’m Mexican, but very much show signs of having ancestors from Spain… I have green eyes. But one of my great grandparents was very much a native of Mexico. It’s so fascinating to learn about how things were before the americas got invaded by Europe.

So, I live about 5 miles from Cahokia Mounds and the "Authorities" will not let anyone explore the areas, use metal detectors or dig anywhere near any of the mounds or they will throw you in a cage. You can climb a staircase that they built into the biggest one, but that all the exploring you may do.

@@DaGolfViking I personally have not experienced this firsthand but there have been articles in the local papers in the past of people trying to metal detect and or wanting to get permission to excavate and being denied to do so.

No human society is entirely peaceful. To assume so is frankly racist. Violence occured among Native People's before and after Europeans arrived. Like all human societies each is unique, special and some are more peaceful than others. History should be taught as free of bias both good and bad not turned into a either a fairy tale of all virtue or all evil. We are cursed in this country with idiots teaching biased history during different periods of portraying Native Peoples as either evil savages or total saints. Native Peoples were like every human society with both good and bad behaviors like every human society. And this is true of Europeans as well who have conquered others and been conquered. And it's time to look at all history on every continent warts and all through unbiased and clear lens because it is a lie if we color it.
