One of my favourite shots in the movie is when the Bene Gesserit nuns arrive to watch Feyd Rautha's fight, and as they walk from the interior light (normal) to the exterior (infrared) their cloaks change from black to white. It's such a subtle transition I didn't even clock what was happening until subsequent viewings but it's SO GOOD.

The absolute BEST thing about this channel is that it uses the same visual concepts to teach you about the visual concepts it’s discussing. The amount of extra work required to pull this off cannot be understated…. We’re talking 10s of manpower-hours for just single shots and sequences. This makes EVERY video an absolute joy of education and entertainment!!! This is premium KZbin folks, and I’m fucking here for it!!! Big shoutout to all the team behind the scenes dealing everyday with phone calls like “hey, did you pick up the oil for the oil bath sequence? What’s the ETA on getting the 3D printed models to work? Did you get my notes on the script? Did we figure out what went wrong with the overnight render? Etc… You guys do such high quality work, that you make it look like you have a team 20+ people!

YESS thank you for this recognizing this!!! For that particular oil sequence, it went something like "let's try to scan Dami's head and make her bald" **tries and fails** "what substance can we use for black oil that can also wash off easily?" **tries with linseed oil, lube, shampoo, detergent, with food colouring.** "but how can we keep the head submerged against the buoyancy of the liquid?" **modifies the 3d print head and prints the handle to keep head down** "what kind of bucket can we use for a clean shot?" so on and so forth... 😆

@@DamiLeeArch - That extra effort is great, but why do you mispronounce words, like at 6:15 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmTPnI1jbNWFd68 where you say "longetivity"? I mean, you sound like a native English speaker who should know that is _not a word._ Does somebody else write your scripts, so that you come upon certain words unprepared? Because IF you write your own scripts, it is a double mystery that you mispronounce "longevity," turning a four-syllable word into FIVE syllables.

@@BlissfulForever888 Longevity is a real word, their comment is critiquing how it was pronounced. To me, it feels like a pointless barb-overly nitpicky and phrased in a way that's more destructive than constructive. People occasionally mispronounce words, especially when reading from long scripts. These minor slips can easily be missed in editing or decidedly not worth re-recording. Striving for absolute perfection often creates unnecessary barriers to completion. For reference, the correct pronunciation of "longevity" is long-JEH-vuh-tee (phonetically: /lɔnˈʤɛvəti/). The channel's host pronounced it as long-eh-TIV-uh-tee (phonetically: /lɔŋɡeˈtɪvəti/). Ultimately, it’s a small thing in the grand scheme of the effort and quality they delivered.

I was a personal trainer for 20 years. I had painted my studio including the celling in a warm bagel color. Added some warm lights that pointed up the walls along with some fresh green plants. Because I had a lot of early morning appointments, I wanted my clients to feel refreshed, like they were working out in a natural space filled with warm light from the outside sunrise. It definitely made a big impact on their attitudes and positivity. Having white walls with white fluorescents was a huge contrast in comparison on their behavior. Colors and emotion are real.

Actually Jodorowsky with out knowing, formed the most important cinematic team in history, despite his Dune adaptation never seen the light, his team worked in other sci-fi productions during the 80’s, creating the masterpieces of the gender we all known such like Alien, where Giger created the Xenonorph, the engineers and all that impressive world inspired in his own art, and now that had been the inspiration again for the Harkonens world at Geidi Prime

There's so much perspective out there that allows us to break free from dumb and simplistic criticisms of art like "oh I don't like that" "I like that" But why tho? And looking at Dune through the lens of architecture just adds more depth and appreciation for the film than some people give it credit for. And I know, as a fan of Dune myself🤣

I am constantly blown away! 2) As always, thank you for going into a deep dive without spoilers. I live a life too chaotic to catch movies at the last good theater in my area that gives a proper 'movie experience', and movies like Dune I always wait for that sweet sweet 4k HDR release to 'watch it right'. I was going to pick up Dune 2 shortly after disc release, but was told that someone already got it for me for Christmas... It has been a looooong wait of avoiding Dune related content for fear of someone ruining something new or interesting on the movie's take on the content. But when I see you guys release something, I know that anything in there is only ever going to be additive to the experience because you aren't a critic, and aren't a reviewer. Everything you guys do deepens appreciation for what you cover, and it is truly awesome! ... Now... Why youtube takes a month to have your videos show up in my suggestion feed... man this platform is extra broken lately *sigh*. I study Worldbuilding for both academic and writing purposes, and Dune has been always held as one of the major cases in science-fiction. Its cohesiness allow future developments in other forms of expressions and artists - not only fanfiction or oficial writers - that build their own versions on such well-layered foundations and give the next solid step for even further developments and speculations. I'm so tired of the haters saying Lynch's version is better and using brainrot words to describe it like "trash" and "its mid" and "that's cap" 🤦‍♂️ It's a beautiful movie. Everything from aesthetics, the story telling, the world building is skilfully composed. I love the mysticism of the first movie and the simmering tension of the second. Villeneuve deserves the accolades for Dune.

@@mymatemonkey Lynch version is very good, but also very chaotic for someone not already familiar with Dune. It was cut by producers to about half the length Lynch originally wanted the movie to be so a lot of stuff is missing and as an isolated piece of media it doesnt makes as much sense as it should have. Also if Im not mistaken Lynch wanted to be disassosiated from the film because of that. The Dune TV series did a way better job as an adaptation simply by being more complete and coherent. Not sure how good the Villeneuve Dune is as a Dune, havent seen it yet, just some short clips and technical background (using IR camera, Helios and Jupiter lenses,...). Only Dune that was simply not Dune was Jodorowsky 'Dune' project.

I am 42 yrs old. I saw the 84' version of Dune when I was like 8. The 3 hour long director's cut is STILL one of my top 10 movies of all time! I read all 6 of the original books and the 7th(Finished by Brian Herbert, Frank Herbert's son)in high school. I believe I was 16 or 17. Still one of my favorite books series, along with Lotr, The Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and all of the Issac Asimov stories that take place in the I,Robot/Foundation universe. I'm also a huge Marvel Comics guy. The new version is also amazing. It is better is some ways, and not as good in others. I love knowing about different people's interpretations of a good source material. If I were do a film adaptation, I think I would have a more ethnically Diverse cast from the Imperium. Denis Villenueve did a good job of Diversifing the Fremen, but Largely the cast of characters from everywhere else were pretty European-esque. I don't mean to sound racist, but logically, with "white caucasians"having always had the smallest world population in reality, and the fact with humanity having spun out into thousands of worlds across the galaxy (in canon)I would expect the landsraad to be more ethnically Diverse. Even the name Shaddam seems more central western or south western Asian, like The Arabian peninsula or India.

15:15 Hey Dami. Here's something you might find interesting. Images with "warm" or "cool" tones don't evoke this sense of warmth or cold in me and I notice it in my peers who are also from tropical countries where there is no perceptible colour change across the seasons. To us it's just more blue and more red/orange. So I think there's definitely some psychology involved somewhere in there.

Geidi Primes sun is not Black. The atmospheric pollution and active terraforming efforts to combat the pollution have "stained" the sky. Light passes through all the exotic chemicals and pollutants, that 100% reduce the span of your life, dramatically, filters it into weird ranges and spectrums for ALTERED human perception. The atmosphere of the living areas is 100% laced with chemicals and narcotics. Your perceptions are altered on Geidi Prime, along with your body. Chemically and in the vast majority of cases surgically. Harkonen citizens have a number of artificial implants in them that allow them to survive on Geidi Prime, to just exist there. Its a counter espionage tactic. Only those vetted and altered by the Harkonen can live there. Anyone that "snuck" onto the planet, cant see, cant hear, cant breath, eat, or sleep properly. All of it requires Harkonen intervention. This is the true and proper scale of Harkonen oppression.

There's literally a star type called a "black dwarf", which is a white dwarf neutron star that has cooled off. But the lifetime of a white dwarf's heat dissipation outlasts to the death of the universe, so Giedi's star is unlikely a black dwarf yet, even though it's 20,000 years in the future. Giedi's star most likely is a white dwarf. Another interesting fact, if the star is a white dwarf, it also means it's a super nova remnant, meaning Giedi Prime long ago was caught in the blast, which scoured all possible life and impregnated the surface with heavy metals, which would be the likely industry Giedi Prime was colonised by the Harkonnens for.

And you also have Muad’Dib’s palace being absolutely huge, and the throne room causes a forced perspective that makes Paul look so much bigger than he actually is. And the only other building that comes close to size of Muad’Dib’s palace is the temple of St. Alia of the knife

Great video, and I get that it's a casual aside, but the notion that the Greeks had to go to nature because they were starting architecture de novo is wrong and plays into a certain type of European chauvinism. The Archaic period, when we start to see what we think of Greek architecture, only starts in 800 BCE. All sorts of people have developed sophisticated architecture in the Mediterranean basin before then, with the Greeks clearly having a familiarity with the monumental styles of North Africa, the Levant and West Asia, as well as the older cultures of the Peloponnese itself. EDIT : Would love to see a video from you on bronze age architecture!

9:23 As a 3d printing pro I have to correct you here (I know it might been the ad script) the problem with the layers on the top of curved surfaces is not resolved by a smaller nozzle, a Smaller nozzle gives you more resolution in the XY plane, for when you have small walls or details in your model, details observed from a top-down view (not sideways), the layers on top of curved surfaces can be minimized by reducing the layer height from the standard 0.2mm to .08mm (this usually augments the printing time if you print the whole model with this reduced layer height) Bambu Studios, Prusa Slices and basically every other slicer gives you the option to have dynamic layer heights, so you can print your model fast at 0.2 or even 0.25 layers and then change to 0.08 in the top curved surfaces.
@maximeteppe7627
@maximeteppe7627 Ай бұрын
in this case I think my solution would have been to print on the side, making the curve happen on the XY plane. there are only blocky ribs on the z plane, so if you rotate the whole thing, the only issue is potentially having to add and then remove supports between the ribs

It's fascinating! I'm a filmmaker and the truth is that your videos have been an inspiration to me, both to write stories and to think and imagine in which worlds to place them. And it has been your content, how well it is narrated, your passion for this beautiful art that has opened my mind and made me think about my way of writing not from the characters, but from where they are located and what stories can appear in those worlds. Every time you quote a book, I want to read it. Or every time you quote an architect, artist or designer, I want to meet them. To understand how they saw the world and how they understood the construction of it to draw conclusions about our way of living as human beings. Greetings and very good video as always! ✨🍒🍉🍄✨
