Stack & Tilt prescribes a motion of the swing centre (left shoulder) on a circular arc on a tilted plane around a stable hub (upper centre). To accomplish this the ENTIRE spine extends, tilts and turns. The cervical spine is the most mobile spinal segment, fixing it in place presents an ANATOMICAL BLOCK to the attainment of a full backswing.
Too many golfers fall foul of such poor advice like “keep your head still”, and in trying to keep their head completely still, they restrict their range of motion, add unnecessary stress their body and rob themselves of significant distance.
Understanding how the cervical spine (neck) turns and tilts throughout the entire swing can really help to unlock huge benefits in terms of improved mobility and increased power potential. How your neck tilts and how your head is positioned also has a huge influence on your swing path direction. You can literally correct your swing path flaws by just learning to move your head differently!
One great example of someone demonstrating this concept would be the pre-shot turning and tilting of the head that Jack Nicklaus used as his trigger for his swing. Jack would turn his head to the right and tilt it to the left to pre-set the required amount of neck tilt at the top of the backswing. This move encouraged increased shoulder TURN, as well as improved shoulder TILT. This move effectively makes a centered backswing pivot easier to achieve.
Want to add more distance and increase your shoulder turn like you're 20 years younger? Then watch the video and add the neck tilts to your swing.
