It's always because of unhealty desires just like it was for me! 😑 Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 most will not find God. To find you have to actually search, most do not even search because of the pleasure of sin. I'm just hoping and praying people will know the trued. And ereases all the lies. @@HakanTunaMuzik The New Covenant is the fullfillment of the Old Covenant, not a change. The law was for the Jews and through the OT we can see that the Jews didn't follow the law. Jesus came to give us Grace through His Holy Blood and work on the cross, and He says in the Bible that He fulfilled the law. We who follow Him and believe in Him, we live in the time of His Grace if we repent (change our thinking) until He comes back.

Thanks to my wife, I became Christian Orthodox about 10 years ago and I truly believe it saved me. I know that's a term that most people who aren't religious roll their eyes at, but its hard to put into words what I've realized over that time. I'm certainly no great example of a Christian but I've been slowly reading the Bible and it's beyond profound. We will ALL find out the truth when we pass, as it says.

I understand what you're saying. I tried to explain it to a friend that isn't a believer and it's very difficult. It interacts with us spiritually as far as I can tell. It's sort of like saying the books itself is alive but it's your spirit that it speaks with. Sounds strange I suppose but I know it to be true.

It’s full of literal contradictions. It’s not historical reality nor accurate. It’s not true or relevant today nor are any religious beliefs as a ‘way of life’. We have far surpassed any use or need for such a manufactured and manipulated mythical thing to take advantage human’s existing in modern civilization. It’s illogical, anti-prosocial, unsustainable, degenerative and functions like an epidemic parasite on mankind. Abrahamic religions particularly encourage and enable a low energy cognitive function and ethnocentric ideas that are the foundation to so much suffering and violence. Every single human alive today is the same species. Many other human species used to exist alongside modern humans, and with them and us combined, there’s obviously a trait that we share where abstract ideas and symbolism is attractive. Our minds and senses aren’t reliable or accurate to use language and ideas as truth which is why we have developed tools- tools called empirical evidence and science. Anthropologist, geneticists, astro-physicists and such may not know everything, but their work thus far has more than adequately and concretely proven the made up idea of gods and the Bible/religious texts are exactly that- made up. This idea of faith being a valuable trait to rely on something like ‘life and everything’ is absurd.

I think Christianity was corrupted long ago and the original meanings were mostly lost. Then the Reformation happened and people tried to reclaim the meanings in many different ways, eventually settling on the literal. But personally I think JP is recreating the ancient meanings of scripture using his vast knowledge of human psychology and philosophy to figure out what lies beneath it. Ancient people didn't think in "literal vs. fiction". Otherwise they wouldn't have needed the Enlightenment to tell them that objective truth was more important than subjective truth. But all of us are children of the Enlightenment, whether we want to be or not. Hence we think that literal truth or objective truth is better than subjective truth or metaphorical truth. But it's not. That's an Enlightenment mindset. That's not how our ancestors thought when they wrote these stories. They're much more complex than literal truth. And we do them a disservice by insisting they be limited to some objective historical narrative.

Do not add to the bible and do not add to it. But how many times was books added to and taken from.. Hard to know the truth. Only way to God is through Jesus. But Jesus spoke in parables. God said he sent his son to die for the sins of the whole world. When someone dies for the sins of the whole world why is there still sin? The Bible says if you say you have no sin the truth is not in you. Then it says go and sin no more so nothing else bad happens. I used to believe anger was a sin but The bible clearly says be angry yet sin not. There are so many sins, everything I turn around, someone brings up another sin.

@@Annx70s Jesus died to pay the debt of our sins, not to end all sin. As fascinating creatures as we are, we have no true power. God has immense power, infinite power. That's why Jesus' sacrifice was enough to pay off our unpayable debt of sin. It is better to be born with free will, and be capable of sin and to turn from it and turn instead to Jesus, than to be programmed from birth to worship him. We have a choice to deny him, but because we don't do that, it pleases him all the more.

Israel, a chosen people of God who were selected to bear his light in the world (you see this light and glory on the face of Moses as recorded in Exodus), also were unworthy through sin. Then Christ who is now seated at the right hand of God is worthy and capable of bearing the whole light of God and that is why 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 (KJV) Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. But there is enough there to do so. 2Tim3.16,17 Paul says that the creation was subjected to futility on the basis of hope that it also will be set free from enslavement to corruption. Christian, truth is literal. If the story in Genesis is not literal then it is not true, no matter how fanciful Jordan Peterson gets with his words and expressions. Would it nor be stupid believing in the story of Tarzan if it isnt true? Would I be able to rationalise that it had truth to it just because I extracted something meaningful to me from it?.... No, its just a story, its nor literal so its not true. Jordan complicates himself with too much 'meaning', its from his training. You cant beat simplicity. Only Christians with a shallow understanding of the gospel should be advised to read the bible literately. Swedenborg is little to heavy for the normal bible flipper, but once you have the basic understanding and matured you may try to understand the correspondences.

For instance, Jesus proclares to The High Priests, "That there is nothing important in the Old Testament/The Torah, then says, "Except for The 10 Commandments.". "And I can put them all in one Commandment". And does so. No mention of Genesis in The Gospels, expect in the latest Gospel written. The Gospel of John, which starts out with Genesis, to prove Jesus is the Jewish Messiah. Born perfect from birth! That's why The Roman Catholic bible "used" to include the "Catholic Apocrypha", sometime before The 1st English version, The KJV. These were to prove that Jesus was Perfect as a child (The Jewish Messiah, which he denied being), yet the stories show how he was "perfect"(in The Gospel of John, as well, because of his superpowers, not the love given, other beautiful, powerful things. I'm paraphrasing, but one "Jesus as a child" story tells how a school friend was hit in the arm and hurt by the school bully, so Jesus makes a clay figure of the bully, breaks it's arm, and the also the bullys arm.

Let's not forget why the Bible was given to mankind in the first place. It's God's very own written revelation of Himself to mankind concerning our human condition, our need for Him, His love for us. Summed up in the perfect work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Nothing on earth comes close to the importance of knowing it and understanding it for the eternal soul of man that is made in God's image completely depends upon it.

Love the Bible as its like living water. it makes the readers bloom and over time, it starts to help us understand in all simplicity of how the jigsaw of life fits together… New Testament brings to us the NEW and living way in Jesus. If you read the Bible as literal, that it is the inspired Word of God - all of it, the hard parts, the mostly incomprehensible laws, the final mysterious book of Revelation - it will be life changing. Of course we may not understand it all, but a slow, meditative read will open your eyes to Truth. And for what you don't understand, ask The Author to teach you. It is a wonderful book of redemption- man's beginning, his spiritual separation from God, God's plans to bring us back to Himself, ending in the glorious promise of eternal life with Him (providing we accept His sacrifice).

But they also know that the Jews didn't all accept Him. Gentiles are saved in the hope that they see what relation they can have with God, in the hope they return (Romans 11:11). The parable of the great feast is saying this, as well as John 1, which I think almost every Christian has read: John 1:10-13 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Which were not in the bloodline. Or as the old testament says: through Abrahams offspring all nations will be blessed (Gen 22:18). I would argue that the Bible IS literally true. The writers were explaining what they were seeing and experiencing in their own words to the very best of their pre-scientific era ability. If modern people could go back in time machines, we would probably attribute a different set of explanations to some of the more miraculous events of the Old Testament, but we would still consider them miraculous.

Also after the 12 tribes went on Exodus Egypt was immediately invaded by foreigners(Amu/Hyskos) and entered it's own dark Age. He highlights a problem archeologists still have where the ruins of older civilizations are commonly found on top of later ones. Remember that the reason God allowed the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel to become the Ten Lost Tribes was because they refused to follow the laws he laid down for him plus they worshipped Pagan Gods and not the God of Israel. So when modern Archaeologists go looking for evidence of Ancient Israel worshipping Jehovah they never find ruins of an Israeli civilization, they only find Pagan temples and customs.

Let me put it to you this way. In the garden of Eden there was a tree, one side of that tree was the Tree of Life. The Bible clearly teaches us that Jesus IS the Tree of Life. Of the Tree of Life they were allowed to freely eat, yet they never did. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is the Word side or the Christos! Scripture makes it abundantly clear that the letter of the law kills and God warned them they would die. When they ate of that tree, the pure, virgin will of mankind died right there. It was a spiritual death. That is why they were commanded NOT to partake of the Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil. Had they actually eaten of the Tree of Life FIRST-Then and ONLY then would they have been in an ideal position to partake of the word of God. The point he was making is this: if you try to literally explain the bible as a literally true text, you undermine the value of its metaphorical or abstract truths. Some people believe this, and others believe that, but it still is true regardless. He did mention that the search for God is an abstraction of the search for the ideal. I believe this to be true and it works for me. But I've noticed that too many religious people keep wasting their energy trying to prove the literal truth if God and the bible. The tv evangelists who preach the unbiblical doctrines that god wants you to be rich, that money is a blessing reserved for obedience to faith, and that god will give you riches if you plant “seeds of faith’ by giving the preacher large donations is, of course, a source of wealth for deceiving men posing as “men of God.” ➢ 1Ti 6:1 ISV All who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their own masters as deserving of the highest respect, so that the name of God and our teaching may not be discredited. 6:2 Moreover, those who have believing masters should be respectful to them, because they are fellow believers. In fact, they must serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dear to them. These are the things you must teach and exhort. There are so many scriptures telling us to be good slaves. Honor the dam boss, no matter how evil and money grubbing and stingy and abusive he may be. The only way that you can convince them that God is good, is if his servants kiss boss’ ass no matter what. And if the boss is a dam hypocritical Christian, make him rich and let him understand that you will be a good slave, no matter how he treats you. We all know that God does not care how you behave, it is all about that belief in Jesus. Confess that you love Jesus and you go to heaven, no matter what. Engrave that in his heart. (Please excuse all my sharp sarcasm, I am resentful of all this, and I feel very passionate about it). Oh, and notice that there are no instructions for the masters to treat slaves humanely, and further, there is no scripture condemning slavery, only promoting it. Tit 2:9 ISV Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, aiming to please them and not argue with them 2:10 or steal from them. Instead, they are to show complete and perfect loyalty, so that in every way they may make the teaching about God our Savior more attractive. Now, this teaching is not so repulsive, and minus the submissive part, it has a portion of truth and good sense. Don’t steal (Gee, I sure am glad they have placed that there, I would have stolen if it wasn’t, I need reminders about every sin), all to make Jesus look good. Why do all these teachings to make you a plastic fantastic phony Christian always tell you to kiss ass to promote Christianity? People will soon look at Christians as butt-wipes who let you walk all over them, trying to impress you. Be a good, submissive slave. You get the picture of how good some of these teachings really aren’t. Did they come from a holy God, or from an alien idiot? Neither, they came from the ultimate master of all. God, who created evil, and sends the evil ones that he has made so, to hell. Look at whom the teachings are addressed to. I don’t see any such attention addressed to slave-masters, but only to slaves. While all these scriptures deal very forthrightly with slavery; there are a half dozen more in the gospels that infer such attitudes and parables that show the subordination of slaves. Slaves are called “servants” in most Bible versions, and are called “employees” in the everyday world. The New Testament is, I believe, contrived for the purpose of promoting the “slave mentality,” and that is why it is somewhat congruent with the Old Testament, which promotes the establishment of using slaves for monetary and power gain. And if you know about the freemasons, you are taught that there are thirty-three degrees (levels) in it, and that when you reach the thirtieth degree, you are informed that the being that they have taught you to worship, is Lucifer. To the best of my knowledge, every single one of our presidents has been a freemason, as well as some being in some clubs such as “hell raisers” and “skull and bones.” The former name of the organization now known as the freemasons was the “Knights of Templar;” who were the mercenaries paid by the Roman Catholic Church to engage in the crusades, later publicly denounced by the church to protect its reputation. Very reputable places for very reputable people. Let us take a closer look. Satan (or god) has been worshiped in many names over the history of the planet. Nimrod, Isis, Baal, etc., and in the New Testament we hear of just about the whole city of Ephesus gathered in an arena chanting “great is Diana” in near-riot frenzy. We live in a world system that runs on power and control, and it forces everyone to conform to its evil ways by oppression and exploitation by means of deception, money and military. Here in USA, we have many protestant and “born-again” churches, which consider themselves as being the only ones “saved.” The congregations go to church every Sunday, usually from about 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and are taught by the pastor, who has studied in seminary, about the faith. They are taught such widely accepted and standard doctrines as “eternal security,” “pretrib rapture,” and of the “foolishness” of “legalism.” They think that they know better than such mistaken doctrines, and ridicule those who live by the wrong teachings as “legalism.” Our pastors have all studied in seminaries for at least four years, delving into books written by the most respected scholars, who show them proper doctrine. They are well qualified to teach us, so we go to church to learn and to worship. Anybody who does not have a diploma from a recognized college, is not deemed fit to lead a church. And to graduate, you must conform to their teachings. I named three, and the inerrancy and the infallibility of the bible as well as “solo scriptura” - all widely accepted and taught doctrines, as held by 98% of Christians. There are these and more that I can easily prove are taught in total deception to a sleeping and unchallenging church, who do not perform their duty to be Bereans, to search the scriptures to see if those things are so, as Paul taught to. We are taught here in America that pastors need to know all kinds of difficult doctrines. I introduce the concept that it is a sign of a wrong teaching to have to do all kinds of scriptural “calisthenics,” - bending and twisting and explaining of scriptures to allow the accommodation of their teaching to logic and your ideas of reality and common sense. But there is in this message a much more important theme and illumination that you truly need to take heed of. The whole thing that I am attempting to impart to you is vital, of utmost and pressing truth that needs to be strongly and forcefully expressed to you. Hopefully you will see in another few paragraphs exactly what it is. I will now spell it out, and bring it on home. That would be a universal kingdom and a one world religion. And now think of all our seminaries, with men’s doctrines, all the ones I mentioned can be proven to be false, and additional ones also. Why go to seminary? If you want to be recognized as an official pastor, somebody the world esteems as qualified, then that is the path you take. Is going to a human worldly institution, learning from men’s written word, not the bible, a way to prepare service to a divine God? Do the dusty halls of academia prepare you for service to God? Did the Jesus of the bible come to teach rabbinical scholars steeped in books (parchments)? No, he taught fishermen and tax collectors, and other average people. He did not use books, nor spend time in classrooms. He was with a small group of twelve men for three years, 24/7. He also had a large circle of 72 others, who also were taught, as well as many crowds as he traveled about the land. He taught with custom made lessons of life, using familiar subjects, and leading by example, not do-as-I-say, - not-as-I-do. He washed the feet, not taught from a pulpit. He served, not being a self-assigned authority and dignitary of respect in worldly eyes. “And who did he rail at, who did he call the worst sinners? Look at the 23rd chapter of Matthew, you will see that he addressed the Pharisees: the religious and political leaders of his time with the strongest words, not the homosexuals and abortion sinners. The Bible is actually history. To say a story is true but it never happened is called mythology. There is no guarantee that the story contains truth. Jesus is historical and confirmed that the history in the Old Testament actually happened.

I admire Jordan a lot, but if I was to criticize anything at all about him(with much respect) it would be his dismissal of the Biblical literal value.... especially with respect to the generations of the earth etc. Science has never disproved anything in the Bible from history down to creation etc.

I have to disagree. The Egyptian kingdoms alone go back further than a literal interpretation of Genesis would give for the age of the earth. Peterson is simply explaining that these stories can be true without being taken literally. One example is that a "day" in the period of the creation could have been a totally different length of time from what we call a day now, 24 hours. I personally experience much deeper meaning from the Bible when approaching it in the way that Peterson does. I believe science is telling the truth about the age of things, but science can't ever explain the very beginning of everything because the beginning of everything required a creator.
