Glass Central Station is honored to present this content from the 2023 Highland Flames - Scotland's only functional glassblowing festival. Joining us is a panel of artists from the UK featuring Hive Glass, Burtango, Glass Haze and the organizer of the event to discuss the culture & community of glassworkers overseas. Demos include working with percs inserted from the bottom, hand formed joints and plumbing, horns, encalmo lip-wrapped cups, flared feet and construction, and finishing large intricate work.

I'm one of the few UK boro glass artists, I'm under 2 years in. The community is a lot smaller than the US but everyone is lovely. Burt has sent me a few messages of encouragement/info before and it's much appreciated. It does feel like a genuine community where everyone's trying to support each other.

My Redmax had a water cooling coil around the lower and I had a national hooked to the side with a magnet so I could use it as a hand torch or nuke overfume and the standard surface mix top fire so it was 3 torches in one. Now I fabricate my own surface mix, premix, remix and Omnimix torches out of stainless steel hypodermic and capillary tube and brass and copper where I want to sink heat from areas 🔥
