I am a huge Brandi Carlile fan. Her music and personal story have just - captivated me, I don't know how else to say it. So, it's surprising I guess that this song, My Only Child, just happened to be my first sampling of the Highwomen's music. Meaning it wasn't their first hit song as a group, and I was slow to catch on! (Lol) However, I eventually did spot the "title of this song." And since I know a little about having an only child, I played it (this version). I loved it! I'm not embarrassed to tell you that daddy's can feel this kind of overwhelming love for their child too. When I heard these lyrics, and especially the warm and loving rendition of them... tears filled my eyes. Thank you Highwomen for this wonderful song. And thank you for continuing to give us a clearer vision of a woman's heart and soul through country music.

As the mother of an "only child" daughter, this song hits deep. Beautiful lyrics and harmonies - my favorite song.

These women are changing country music. I always felt excluded and unsafe around country music. Wonderful to see the form evolving to be more inclusive.

A staggeringly beautiful song. I'm neither an only child nor a mother but it hits me like a monster-wave every time . Sublime , absolutely sublime.

@@missbumblebee8633 It sounds like you are making assumptions about what it means that Maren has chosen the clothes she has. Maybe it actually means that she’s comfortable with her body, that she’s from a place with warmer weather, or that she likes dressing sexy and sassy. Women these days have a lot more flexibility with what they wear and most people have begun to realize that the judgements aren’t correct or helpful. I think we should let character, not clothing, define us.

@@lisakathleen8090 I am a musician and woman myself. I will always defend a woman's right to wear what she wants to wear. However, I will also always defend my right to object to it. Has nothing whatsoever to do with misogyny. I just value music way too much and I want to see female musicians impress with their talent and not their boobs or a$$.
