When you say "some" people view them as throaway time wasters, do you mean the vast, VAST majority of people gaming today? You do realize that the most played games every year, are literally games that have yearly release cycles (Madden, Fifa, NBA 2k, COD, etc...), F2P games/Live service games and mobile games, right? GoT and TLoU Part 2 sold 10 million copies each, after 2 fucking years of bundles and heavy discounts, you're telling me, those games would have suffered or would've been impossible to make if they were put on a sub service?

I have two boys and a girlfriend to provide for and many places in Louisiana still want to pay sub $15 a hour here. I mean minimum wage is still 7.25 here! $4000 dollars might not be a lot of money but it would help keep my lights on and feed my family. After watching this truly real friendship play out for years and the fruit of that relationship being their professional independence, it stung to see Greg just throw Colin to the wolves like that over something so trivial. It worked out for the best in the end, Colin was unhappy with the direction the company was going in. In hindsight it's always seemed like a pretense for Greg to jettison a friendship at an opportune moment for the sake of what he envisioned the company could be, Colin became a liability. Greg Miller is a big phony. "Best Friends", indeed.

The Kinda Funny studio is a bit of a mystery to me. Do they expect an influx of new Patreons to justify that cost? I’ve seen their KZbin views go down and they stopped making their publishing their Patreon numbers. It looks nice but it’s not like their shows are much different and are mostly just them sitting at a desk talking. Seems they are just milking their current base for more $$$ than growing their audience.

First of all, Bayonetta IS NOT a series that made 450mil+. This series has sold just over 3m copies on ALL platforms combined. Bayonetta is a well-known character, but just because some influencers like a game and talk about it a lot doesn't mean it sells millions n millions of copies in the real world. Secondly, considering the information at our disposal now about this mess and how Hellena misrepresented the numbers and said she was offered only 4k$, it is obvious that she threw this laughable 450 million dollars number out to create a dire juxtaposition of the profits made by the series and the money offered to her. Everyone, including foolish me, went - Oh, they made so much money! Oh, poor lead VA got offered so less in comparison! Aww, and immediately rallied behind her. Never again I'll believe accusations, no matter how emotionally charged they are, without hearing both sides of the story,

I don't understand why Chris and Dustin don't push back on Colin here: "They are in desperate, desperate need of both a single player and multiplayer shooter." - Colin Single player shooters aren't thriving ANYWHERE. Niether Nintendo, XBox, or Steam have any big single player shooters because they don't do well in the market anymore. Why does PlayStation "desperately need" a game that will sell between 2 - 6 million copies when it's clear they're strategy is 10x type games? PlayStation is now this... Single player, big IP, with the potential to sell 20+ million copies. Open world most likely. Multiplayer, with the potential to be the next big Live Service game. This talk of small titles with low market potential would be gross misconduct from PlayStation leadership considering they've awakened the sleeping giant known as XBox. PlayStation is playing Moneyball now. Small titles are meaningless to them.

No offense but you should have done some more research before talking about the Bayo controversy. For starters simple math tells you that her claim about the 450 mil or whatever value the games are worth is basically impossible. Series total sales are only a few million copies. Even if you're generous and say it's sold like 4 mil copies (which is probably too high, the numbers we know of point it at around 3 mil copies sold for the entire series) that is only around 240 million dollars. And that is assuming every single game is sold at full price (which it isn't obviously.) Bayonetta is a relatively small series and has not generated anywhere in the ball park of what was claimed. That was the first warning sign that this whole thing was fishy. Secondly in regards to Chris talking about how she is not green - yes she is. Taylor has not had a single voice acting role outside of Bayonetta in a decade. Back when the original Bayonetta came out (2009) it looked like she was trying to get into the VA industry but she gave up it seems. Who knows why. But it's very obvious she lacks experience and does not understand how the industry works. That is probably the reason this whole thing happened in the first place, her complete lack of knowledge considering she isn't really a VA. Lastly the "grow up" comment about money reeks of being out of touch with reality and not seeing the performance for what it is. For some reason everyone just ignores the amount of actual work going into these games. Bayonetta is an action game light on story and cutscenes, it's not some cinematic experience or RPG where these people are doing tons and tons of dialogue. Taylor herself said she recorded all of her lines for Bayonetta 1 in 16 hours. 4 days of work at 4 hours a day, her own words. Literally not even what would be considered full time work in the US. Bayonetta 3 will likely have around the same amount of dialogue (Bayo 2 had roughly the same as well) and frankly could have less (for the character) because Bayonetta has to share the spotlight with the new playable character they're introducing, Viola. Sorry but there is no world where a voice actor of a niche game series (or even a big one as far as I am concerned) should be making 6 figures (or anything close) for around 20 hours of work. That is complete insanity.
@Ramona1220032 жыл бұрын
To add to this, the claimed that they lowball her and she worth more, but then they turned around and hired Jennifer Hale who is not only a vet VA who is in a union, but is probably one of the most high profile VAs you can hire at this moment. So what sense would it make to lowball original Va and then turn around and hire someone who is probably more expensive.

Kinda funny was (is, but to a lesser extent) so awesome because of it being in person. Their new studio video did bring a tear because of how monumental that was for them to be back in person. Even though so many people are not the original group, their banter is fun. But their new studio is too extra. I wish we just had the extra bedroom like before but maybe more fleshed out. I hope they also allow video calls too sometimes because nobody wants to go to the office every day (even though it cost a lot so they probably will be there every day). The video calls also made it easy to have guests. With last stand, I wish you guys would occasionally visit each other and just do the show as normal at somebody's house, at least just once more to try it out. Even if only 2 are at the house, and 1 is still on video call, I think it would be entertaining and give stuff a different enjoyable twist. There is value in these in-person shows (And I mean regular shows, not specials). I think it's also okay for it to be used as a bonus, instead of a norm. That way getting out of bed early that one day like 3 times a year and making a trip of it won't feel like a chore, it will be exciting, and the audience will enjoy the banter and increased engagement. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise keep up the good work. Definitely my favorite gaming podcast

Have to assume KF is planning to expand, it’s the only way that what must be a 1+mil studio is justifiable. Raising their tiers so that you get literally nothing for less than $10 (and at that everything deprecated by some amount of time).. more or less forcing the $20… that’s just so far from reasonable - hope they didn’t screw themselves, still wish them continued success despite these odd choices. Speaking on the topic of Kinda Funny's new studio, well, to be honest it's nice to look at but it makes zero sense. I've researched the numbers and anyone can look at view counts on their videos and there is no way the new studio is sustainable. I'm not too sure why an illuminated floor is needed and after getting past the initial aesthetic look of the new studio I was instantly left scratching my head, asking myself "what is the point of this?" To me, all I see is a group of content creators flexing without any reason to flex. Sure, it's nice to flex and show studio growth off but who exactly are you trying to be? It's fake as fuck and I am curious to see how long the new studio space lasts. Hey, if I'm wrong in the end and the new studio space ends up completely viable and sustainable then I will stand corrected. I just don't see that happening and it seems like a huge mistake. Have to agree.. if they can afford that studio.. they have income far in excess of what Patreon can do (theirs anyway). Their numbers have been leveled off for years now. The whole “we’re in a million dollar studio, asking our viewers for yet more money”… it’s gotten kind of ridiculous. Jacking up Patreon pricing isn’t helping matters either imho. As a new OW player, the game is fun but not great I guess. It feels far too team reliant that if you're doing completely fine on your own but another teammate is doing absolute dogshit, you can't really come back from that. No amount of healing, buffing, or peeling will help the 0/12 Hanzo hit headshots or stop the Genji from running into the backline then dying immediately. Can't even do a whole lot if your tank is playing far too passively to the point that it's up to everyone else to engage and make space. OW can be a lot of fun but Christ it can make LoL look like a good game at times.

Incredibly excited for the new Silent Hill film. And it's directed by Christophe Gans, who directed the original Silent Hill film. The first Silent Hill film was the best video game film of all time, in my opinion. It truly is a great and disturbing horror film.

My new way to game (I mainly play Apex of Warzone most of the time) but the likes of single players, I just wait for it to be about £10/$10 and the "ultimate" editions etc. Wait for 4k updates etc. Then you're playing the best possible version of the game.

Sub vs paid... let's assume that the dev receives the same amount in each case for their work, or that they can make more on the backend with DLC to a larger sub audience. In this case, what is the better model for creativity? The model that has certain expectations of length? That can only be greenlit if it's going to do certain numbers? That has to be yet another over the shoulder, cinematic, blah? ‘Remake’? That needs 12 GaaS games to prop it up? or the model that needs diversity in its offering?... This is another one of those instances where Colin has (deliberately?) for some reason blinkered himself.

There's so many problems with the Bayonetta situation, of course. But I think what really sucks is that yes, maybe 15-20k is a low ball for a prominent VO, but Taylor's lie for emotional manipulation has to hurt the fight for more pay. If she didn't say she was only offered 4k total, and she said 15-20k, we could continue to discuss the low payouts for VAs. It's a shame it's become this he said she said argument. Also Bayonetta isn't a 450 million dollar franchise by a long shot. That number is insane.

I’m cautiously optimistic about a new silent hill.. I’m 26, silent hill 2-4 as well as Mgs 2 and 3 is probably my favorite video games of all time.. it’s crazy how, Konami which was one of the best in the business is now a ghost of its former shelf.. btw Colin.. ur the reason why I would watch ign back in the day.. ur passion for video games and the way u tell nostalgic stories of your younger self playing them resonates with me so much despite u being much MUCH older than me .❤️ 💯 MUCH older 👴🏼

Colin, idk if I can agree with you on the Bayo3 segment… 1) The rebuttal that Platinum had was 3-4k per 4 hour session… while I agree that art should be valued at a high level, it’s hard to respect her claim that the offer was “insulting” when the offer was $1000 PER HOUR. Most people in the west are making $15-25 usd per hour… 2) The $450 million “franchise“ is straight BS… even if you add up all the games sold estimates on VG chartz and multiplied by $60, $150 million would be a generous assumption Note: I can personally state not every unit sold for $60 as I bought both for about $10… as I assume many others did as well

Now what happened exactly, when Colin disappeared? And the two sons do the Resident Evil news recap? I bought Resident Evil Village on ps5, in preparation for the third person mode update. Can't wait to fire it up for the first time in a couple days! Also I cannot wait for Resident Evil 4 remake. It's being developed by the re2 Remake team, so it's guaranteed perfection in my opinion. Absolutely love Leon and this game.

Hey Layers of Dears, Is it possible that PlayStation has an allotment of cash designated for third party exclusives and all of the JRPG portion of it went to Final Fantasy, Persona 6, and Ni No Kuni 3? Meaning that the Arms Fantasia project was considered redundant? Thanks.

"Bayonatta is worth 450 million". First off, where is she getting that number from and why are you taking her world on it when she lied about almost everything else? That and Bayonatta as a series probably only sold around 3 million and was discounted several times. If Bayonatta was really worth close to half a billon dollars, why is Nintendo funded it instead of Sega and why was Bayontta dead until Nintendo came in and funded the second game?
