Why not the option of reducing salinity was right ? As soil salinity increase with water logging and there is no water logging in drip irrigation . I think right answer is ..all 3 options.

See, drip irrigation does not cause salinity. But it will not reduce salinity if the soil is already saline. So it prevents salinity from occurring, but does not reduce it. Hence this option was wrong

Answers to Mains Questions: Q1. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a flagship programme of Govt. of India for pregnant and lactating women. The programme has following features: 1. Guaranteed direct benefit transfer of ₹ 6,000 in three equal installments of ₹ 2,000 each for the first child birth subject to following conditions: a. Registration at the time of pregnancy b. Completion of anyone prenatal checkup c. Registration at the time of childbirth. This is an extention of the earstwhile National Nutrition Mission Programme. However, recent study by Jachha Bachha Survey (JABS) have shown that the efficacy of the programme is limited: 1. Only 61% of the women have received all the three installments. 2. Only 1/3rd of the eligible women are covered till date. The various reasons that can be attributed to these dismal numbers can be: 1. Lack of awareness among people 2. Reduced benefits: less allocation of resources than the earstwhile National Nutrition Mission Scheme and coverage for only the first child birth. 3. More compliance in form of Aadhar cards of the women as well as their husbands. 4. Poor implementation and no grievance redressal mechanism: Many cases have been reported where women have been denied the benefits because of address mismatch between their paternal and in-law's homes. These reasons have resulted in lower participation and its effectiveness has taken a hit. The govt. of India should take a leaf from schemes of various state govts. such as Tamil Nadu and Odisha which have been far more successful than PMMVY due to proper implementation and more benefits i.e, coverage for 2nd child birth too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q2. Cartosat series of satellites are a series of high resolution earth observation satellites which have been placed in a polar orbit by ISRO. There have been 7-8 satellites which have been placed till now and ISRO is planning to place another one named Cartosat-3 next year. These satellites are equipped with very high resolution systems which make them ideal for the following applications: 1. Military application: For border monitoring and geographic mapping 2. Mineral exploration in tough terrains 3. Weather forecasting and climate monitoring 4. Disaster management and support. Moreover, this places India in a league of those countries which have advanced remote sensing satellites that have a very high resolution prowess. The launch of Cartosat series of satellites has also been a strategic advantage for India as it enhances its spacefare capabilities viz a viz its neighbouring countries.

The Cartosat satellites are a series of Indian earth observation satellites built and operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The Cartosat series is a part of the Indian Remote Sensing Program. They are used for Earth's resource management defence services and monitoring. 1. Cartosat-1 was launched by PSLV-C6 on 5 May 2005 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre's SLP at Sriharikota. 2. Cartosat-2 was launched by PSLV-C7 on 10 January 2007 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre's FLP at Sriharikota. Cartosat-2 carries a state-of-the-art panchromatic (PAN) camera that take black and white pictures of the earth in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. 3. Cartosat-2A was launched by PSLV-C9 on 28 April 2008 along with 9 other satellites. 4. Cartosat-2B was launched by PSLV-C15 on 12 July 2010 from Sriharikota. The satellite carries a panchromatic (PAN) camera capable of taking black-and-white pictures in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum.

5. Cartosat-2C has a lower resolution of 25 cm (10"). It uses 1.2 m optics with 60% of weight removal compared to Cartosat-2. Other features include the use of adaptive optics, acousto optical devices, in-orbit focusing using MEMs and large area-light weight mirrors. The satellite was to be launched on board PSLV C-34 during 2014, but was delayed and finally launched on 22 June 2016. 6. Cartosat-2D was launched by PSLV-C37 on 15 February 2017 7. Cartosat-2E was launched by PSLV-C38 on 23 June 2017. The PSLV-C38 rocket launched the 550 kg satellite along with 30 other nano satellites. 8. Cartosat-2F was launched successfully by PSLV-C40 on 12 January 2018.

9. Cartosat-3 is a proposed advanced remote sensing satellite from ISRO, which is intended to replace the IRS series. It will have a panchromatic resolution of 0.25 metres and Mx of 1 metre with a high quality resolution which is a major improvement from the previous payloads in the Cartosat series. Potential uses include weather mapping, cartography or army defence, and strategic applications.
