Good evening sir, Today’s motivational quote is “Think like a proton always positive.” Editorial is related to the RBI’s decision for enhancing the repo & reverse repo rates. In my opinion:- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which works for curbing the inflation, has decided in its recent meeting of Monetary Policy Committee that it is going to increase repo & reverse repo rates. Increasing the rates may create more problems for the RBI for controlling the inflation. For example, if the RBI gives loan to banks in high rates then bank will provide it to the people in high rates. This formula will also apply when the banks provide loan to the RBI. It is true that the main reason behind increasing the inflation is Russia’s invasion on Ukraine, the heat wave hampering rabi crop production, high edible oil prices, electricity tariffs etc. If inflation stays within 2-6%, it is considered that everything is going normal but nowadays it has often seen that it has crossed the target band which is a negative indication for India’s economy. If the RBI wants to control the inflation, it must take all necessary action on priority including convening the MPC’s meeting on monthly basis. Sometimes, it has been seen that the meeting was not convened from long time and when they are asked to submit reason, they are unable to produce specific reasons. Such careless attitudes must leave by the RBI’s representatives else curbing inflation will be an impossible task for them. Apart from this, there can be no denying that the inflation can be curbed, if the government focuses on increasing the production in the country.
