And I actually snuck inside of the TUNNEL in 1995 when I was 23 years old, LOL...…… I swear the TUNNEL was the best HipHop Club in MANHATTAN . You had to be 21 years and over to get in. So if you was the ages of between 21 and 31 in the 1990s , then you were LUCKY , because that was the HOT SPOT for those age groups back in the 90's HIPHOP & RnB DECADE

It was really dark in there for some reason, the night of my 27th belated b-day. I remember that night like yesterday. All my homies were in the crowd and I almost got my shit rocked for feelin up on Amil. I didn't even know it was her until my homie told me "yo chill that's amil." This was in 99 so she was on vol.2 at this time. So, I looked at him and said "oh shit that's amil" and then I looked at amil and she gave that look like nigga you know you fuck'd up. I was expecting her to blow up right then and there but she didn't but you can tell she was checking my profile. My homie tried to apologize to her and tell her I was drunk (I wasn't) but she couldn't even hear him it was mad loud in there. Now she looking confused and it's just a awkward moment. Anyways she just kept it movin through the crowd. So I felt like I dodged a slap to the face or even worse than that but then the next thing you know about 15 or 20min later. I spotted Amil again and she was making her way to some guy standing next to freeway. Freeway was like my favorite battle rapper at the time, that's how I was able to spot her from a far in the dark and so basically she started pointing at me and maaaan before that nigga turned his head towards me. I got so low to the floor that the people around me thought I had passed out. That kind of bought more attention to me but it was pretty dark so not too much attention. So I stayed down right, crawled and grabbed my nigga's ankle and he kicked me thinking it was someone else. I looked up and he said "nigga what happened?" I screamed "Amil!!!" He said "where?" I said "by freeway and them." He looks and now she's pointing at him so now he drops to the floor with me. Now, we both look stupid at this point and we start crawling fast to a random crowded area and stood up behind some people so Amil and that nigga can't see us. Two of our other homies noticed us acting weird. They came to us like "what the fuck are y'all doing" and we told them we gotta go right now. They were out of the loop they didn't know what was going on. They didn't even want to leave either but the look in our eyes and our body language had them shook to so we all got the hell up out of there quick. We were only there for like a couple hours but we weren't trippin cause Jay-Z, Dame Dash or anybody that significant didn't show up so it was all good. I knew when I was in the tunnel that it was a once in a lifetime event and I was lucky to be amongst that energy at that time.. It was moment I'll never forget.

My brother and I lived up in NJ in mid 80’s. A buddy of ours who was a photographer and got passes for a group of us. This was either 86 or 87. Still had to wait to be picked to go in. Funny thing while we were waiting this guy was being chased by a Taxi cab driver who tackled him literally at the Tunnel door entrance and started hitting him in the head with a little bar or something. The outdoor bouncers broke it up and the Taxi driver said the guy broke his window and demanded the police be called. I remember thinking the Contrast of the situation was interesting. All these well dressed people with ideas of self importance and all the sudden reality invades. Needless to say those guys were not picked to get in. LOL. The Tunnel was a neat club back. I was in my early. 20’s. I have since been to clubs all over and in various places in Europe and decided that a club is a club is a club no matter where it is.

What’s the status of this film? Pre or post Production? I’m a filmmaker myself and I use to frequent the Tunnel, I can probably help with his film.

Jay H you had me thinking that I didn’t put the information for the film in the description box. Maybe I need to put out now in the title cause I’m learning that people don’t read the descriptions.

The tunnel did not close because of hip hop on a Sunday. It close from my understanding on regular party night an under age white girl got in some trouble at the spot Also the owner was under investigation.

Peter Gatien was tried for drug dealing, yes, and clubs were closing around that time as NYC was changing and Giuliani led a crackdown on nightlife. I was there and Mayor Giuliani reenacted the old cabaret law. Without a cabaret license (not easily available) it was illegal to dance at places where drinks were served😂. Truth! I was at a tiny club one night and we were dancing, the cops came in and DJ's had to stop. We waited for 30 minutes after they left, and carried on. But Giuliani truly tried to kill NYC nightlife. Some stuff he did was good, but he went too far too many times, and clearly didn't like non-white people and culture. He wasn't nearly the sad, desperate for power, unhinged person he is nowadays, though.
