The tree is almost 200 years old. An Arborist can take a sapling of the tree and cultivate it in place of the old one. All is not lost. To be honest, it was not well cared for. The main trunk is still standing and it is possible it might still grow back if cared.

I've heard that the cotton tree was over 400 years old. Hopefully, it will grow back even stronger than before 😍🙏.

We need another artificial symbolic tree to be there in this modern generation

We have lost the greatest symbol of our country. Many have said it is like losing a relative. Freetown has been burnt down and rebuilt many times over the years(by the French, other tribes, etc) but the Cotton Tree has always remained constant. I like your message at the end - it is time to make new history and I am curious what we decide to do going forward as the root and base of the tree are still there.

The tree, though insanely damaged, looks alive I think. I hope it regrows

The prominent tree broken down is regrettably sad occurence. . . however symbolic of freedom for generations. Liberty, Assurance, are God given rights, Never be erased or broken or stolen

I have heard central africans specifically congolese and angolans were also liberated slaves in africa along with west africans in freetown sierra leone so it was all along the west coast of africa also just to ask when you refer to west africans do you mean the west coast of africa in general from sierra leone all the way down to congo and angola?
