Generation Kikaida is closing up shop within the next month, unfortunately. A lot of their products have already been sold off with only small quantities of the Kikaider Reboot and scattered volumes of the OG series still left. It’s sad to see them go, the team there really worked hard to keep Kikaida’s memory alive here in Hawaii for the past two decades. Can’t thank the woman in charge, Joanne Ninomiya, enough for the work she put in all these years and for pretty much being the reason why I was even able to watch the original series and 01 in the first place by getting them to rerun on KIKU when I was a kid in the early 2000’s. Whoever managed to pick up full series copies while they could really have themselves a piece of tv history.

Not completely true, yet. Kikaida still has a presence in the state of Hawaii. Even in as recent as November 2023, the University of Hawaii pep band played the Kikaida opening theme song during timeouts at the University of Hawaii sporting events home games.

Aloha from Hawaii ..... this video popped up in my KZbin feed today. Wow, growing up, Kikaida was something I watched every week with my family. I still have a CD of Kikiaida / Kikaida 01 and Kamen Rider V3 songs. I also still have the DVD collection of Kikaida and Kamen Rider V3. Anyways, this is an excellent video. I'll be sharing it with my friends.

Part of Kikaida’s legacy still still holds strong today. As recent as November 2023, the University of Hawaii Pep band played the Kikaida opening theme song during a time out of a University of Hawaii Women’s volleyball game, to a crowd of over 7,000 people.

Hakaida has *two* theme songs, actually (Theme Of Saburo, The song of Hakaida), and they are both better than anything the hero gets. =^[.]^=

Sadly, we lost Ichirou Mizuki at the end of 2022. He so dramatically sang Hakaida’s song. (Hawaii fans use -da rather than -der)

Quite possibly one of the most famous Tokusatsu shows of all time... That you probably never heard of. (God I wish us Brits had official releases of shows like this and the more famous Kamen Rider)

in Hawaii in the early 70’s he was a huge hit. After 40 years I got my picture taken with kikaida Jiro -Ban Daisuki And kikaida 01 Ichiro - Ikeda Shunsuke and autographs when they came to Ala Moana shopping center .. they had an interpreter so fans could communicate I was happy to wait 1 1/2 hours in line. Both of them were so patient and made eye contact and in my case Ban Daisuki talked to me first and asked The interpreter if I would like to come around the table to get a picture . I was 48 years old 6’1” 250 pounds but at that moment I was that 8 year old kid meeting his heroes . I just wish I had brought my elementary school photos with my kikaida T shirts on 😁 great people ❤️

Jealous of you. I only have a poster autographed in advance by Ban-San and Ikeda-San. And in January, I was in SoCal and could not attend Generation Kikaida’s last event. Still very sad about that.

Not very familiar with this show, so I found this very informative. Also, while I had no idea the actor who played the 2nd Battle Cossack played Android Kikaider and Inzauman prior, it should be noted that Battle Fever J aired from 1979 to 1980, while Denshi Sentai Denziman aired from 1980 to 1981.

Just finishing my 5th grade summer 1974, heading into my 6th grade year, me and my Brothet was all bummer out, because my 4 th grade summer,is when we got turned on to Bruce Lee, and we so sickened by that lost, that were desperately looking for something to find and peek our interest again, we were watching all the Bruce Lee movies over and over again, all other Kung Fu stars didn't cut it for us, So back to my 6th grade school year, that is all me and my friends would only tell about. And growing up on Molokai, we had only 2 theaters, no cable at that time, only 5 stations on tv, channels 9 kgmb CBS, 4 kitv ABC, 2 khon NBC, 10 PBS, and 13 kiku japanese tv, and usually Saturday nights there are no kid shows on after 6pm, and for some reason we had only 1 tv at the time, and so by 6 PM my Dad would watch he news, then I think wheel of fortune and some other police detective show, but our parents had to go to a family outing, so me and my brother had the TV, but there was nothing we liked, so I changed it to kiki 13, my brother was like there' is nothing good on Japanese tv, but I held the knob down on channel 13, then my brothers eyes was locked to the screen, I looked, there was this dude in red and white in a turbin and firing beams from his hands, blasting their other dudes in hats and mask with machine guns, then this vampire dude appeared and they started to fight, we watched it with sub titled, so we understood the show and found out, the heroes name Rainbowman, and when it ended, it showed previews for next week, then the commercials said stay tuned for kikaider, and me and my Brother was like wow, we gotta check this out, I remember I called a friend of ours and told him to check out channel 13, and when it started, the theme song to kikaider was so rocking me and my brother loved it, we hadn't seen the rainbowman theme, not until the next week, and me and my brother got lucky again,our parents got invited to a poker game, and when we learned the rainbow man theme, we were locked stock and barrel, we had found what we needed to get us over the Bruce Lee lost, and back in school me and the friend I called were the only ones that saw the rainbow man and kikaider shows, and do we told all of our friends, but we had a problem, when our parents are home, we will be out of luck, we told our mom, we found a great tv show on station 13, every Saturday nights from 7to730, 8'to 830 PM, and that we are following the story plot, but she said it's a Japanese station, so we told her we are reading the sub titles, so she got my dad to do something, so we could watch our tv show, and she watched it with us, and to be honest, she lliked very much, and because my mom was a quartet Japanese, and that we were reading the subs, she got our older sister living on Oahu, to buy us s new tv set, and so by the next week, me and my brother had the old tv, and the rest I'd history, I miss those days, my parents were the best, they always accommodated us, but in return, me and my Brother agreed to clean the yard every other week, and then clean the bathroom, and the windows and screens every other week, and feed our Cows everyday.

I remember as a kid, I would always hear on the Radio and on TV commercials, about Kikaider showing up at the mall... I never saw the show as a kid, save for one episode (thoughI think it was just him playing his iconic melody before the fight. I was more into power rangers back then. But I knew of the hero kikaider. I had only becomeinterestedin kikaidera few years ago, after seeing it referencedon Brandon Tenolds Cult movie Classics (Inframan). I was lucky to find a DVD set a g-fest, though it was a bootleg collection. Its actually kind of funny, how wrong some of the subtitle are, often mentioning "king dark" and "planet dark". It also had commercials from when it was recorded... its an odd time capsule of sorts from before my time. I personally consider it a treasure of sorts. But it made me want to to buy the official stuff. Am working on getting the dvd's. One at a time. Now, I think back to all the times I heard about his visits on the radio. Makes me wish I went to that mall. It would have been great, I can't help but think.

I know I missed a number of other appearances-for example, there are multiple Pachinko machines I skipped-but Kikaider's appearance in the 2013 Super Hero Taisen movie...I completely missed.😅 Thanks for calling it out. I'll have to make sure I include it, whenever I get to doing a lookback at the Kikaider Reboot movie.

5:55 It's interesting that Kikaider had the "half mechanical parts" look before Terminator, Borg, etc. The illustration at 7:12 shows the partly transparent look even more than the costume did. (Later on, Micronauts and Space Adventure Cobra.)

It has a lot of similarities for sure! As it happens I started working on a Metalder episode, but quickly realized that Kikaider should go first so I can better draw those comparisons in the Metalder overview. Then I forgot to kickstart work on Metalder! Need to get back on that 😆

Kikaida suit color it was a little brighter blue color when you watch the First Season and 1 episode the original kikaida it wasn't a dark blue color.... you'll See the difference......

The suit's colors changed over time due to wear, the sun and other environmental factors. In some programs like Barom One, the color of the suit by the end of the series is almost completely different due to this.

This video is pretty good, but it would have been a whole lot better without the continual (and atrocious) mispronunciations of nearly every Japanese word - sadly including even "Kikaida". It is NOT pronounced "KikaidER".
