Too bad this guy skipped over gliders which led to the Wright flyer. Example: Sir George Cayley (1773-1857) built the world's first hand-launched glider in 1804. It was five feet long and was the first example of the configuration of a modern aircraft, with separate systems for lift and control. Cayley deserves to be remembered as the first aeronautical engineer. Also missing is rocketry which led to the space shuttle and moon landings.

I will talk about something, Within the expansive and intricately interwoven fabric of the aviation domain, where the amalgamation of diverse disciplines like aerodynamics, aeronautics, air traffic management, avionics, and meteorology converges, individuals must cultivate an exhaustive and profound understanding to adeptly navigate the perpetual complexities, ensuring the harmonious and secure orchestration of aircraft operations amid the ever-shifting dynamics of the vast and celestial expanses overhead, also Navigating the intricate tapestry of aviation, a multifaceted realm intertwining disciplines such as aerodynamics, aeronautics, air traffic management, avionics, and meteorology, demands an expansive and nuanced comprehension, as individuals within this dynamic field collaboratively work to ensure the safe, efficient, and seamless operation of aircraft within the ever-evolving and vast expanse of the boundless skies.

When New Zealand produces the slightest shred of evidence beyond old stories repeated as bar talk, then aviation historians will start to take that claim seriously.

You are missing a whole big part of the history. Glenn Curtiss!!! He even got american pilot license #1, won the first airmeet in france. Is regarded as the father of naval aviation. Trained american pilots in san diego. Created the most built plane during the first world war (JN4) which was used to train pilots in the UK and later used for the us mail. Developed the idea of the air carrier (and tested it with the american military) and created the plane that flew for the first time across the atlantic (NC4) among many, many, many other accomplishments.

Thank you for giving credit to Gustave Whitehead with "First in Flight" in 1901 beating the Wright Brothers by 2 years in Bridgeport Connecticut.
@mikearmstrong8483
@mikearmstrong8483 5 ай бұрын
There is no evidence of Whitehead ever flying in 1901. He claimed to have flown 5 miles, but could not provide witnesses. Interviewed years later, his story had a lot of discrepancies and contradictions. When asked to show his designs, he produced drawings that he admitted were not of the craft that he claimed to have flown, and were technologically outdated already in 1901.

It is arguable that the Wright brothers did the first heavier then air powered flight. Their first model weighed over 500 pound and only had a 12 HP engine, later tests showed that that airplane could not sustain flight, It was under powered. Later models upped the HP but still flew badly, Glen Curtis made a big step in flight performance.

@@cardinalRG I cant find my source yet but consider this, 500 pound airplane with 200 pound man is 700 pounds. divide by 12 hp gives power loading of 58 pounds/HP. Thats beyond really bad, The aircraft was launched with the aid of a catapult into strong winds maybe 20 MPH. Longest flight was like 800 feet in 59 seconds, thats not sustained flight. Subsequent flights of replicas could not sustain flight either. Believe what you want i dont care.

@@jbird6609 -- _"I cant find my source yet but consider this, 500 pound airplane with 200 pound man is 700 pounds. divide by 12 hp gives power loading of 58 pounds/HP. "_ Neither Wright weighed near to 200 pounds, and you’re omitting many essential factors. For example, what was the engine’s torque and gearing? What was the propeller efficiency, and the aircraft’s coefficients of lift and drag? What is the computed effect of ground effect? If you can’t reckon these and all essential factors, then you’re just guessing. _”Thats beyond really bad.”_ By what standard is it “bad”? (I’ll point out that “bad” is a subjective term anyway, and the laws of physics don’t care what you think is bad or not.) _”The aircraft was launched with the aid of a catapult into strong winds maybe 20 MPH.”_ The 1903 Flyer did not use a catapult. And winds only affect takeoff distance, but they are not the hinge point for taking off at all. The Wrights had about sixty feet of rail, and without a strong headwind they would have needed much more length. _”Longest flight was like 800 feet in 59 seconds, thats not sustained flight. “_ What are your criteria for “sustained flight”? _”Subsequent flights of replicas could not sustain flight either.”_ The 1903 Flyer barely flew, was extremely difficult to control, and it required dry and cold air. (Low density altitude) Attempts with replicas have been made in less favorable atmospheric conditions (higher density altitude), by pilots who greatly out-weighed the Wrights and who had none of the brother’s extensive practice and experience with the unwieldy aircraft. That no modern flights have matched the originals in length/duration is not only unsurprising, but it says nothing conclusive about the abilities of the original aircraft. _”Believe what you want i dont care”_ That’s an odd thing to say for someone who makes claims about “later tests”, but is unwilling or unable to provide evidence when requested. You should ponder your urge to make technical conclusions based on hunches instead of technical analysis. Your weight-to-horsepower figure is meaningless while devoid of context. Consider this real-world comparison: the gate locks of the Panama canal weight 745 tons each, but before modernization they were swung with ease by a 40-horsepower motor each. That’s 37,250 pounds/HP…but gee, that seems impossible, so it must *_be_* impossible, right? Friend, I hope you get the point, that the answer always lies in real analysis, not guesswork.
@jbird6609
@jbird6609 2 жыл бұрын
@@cardinalRG I was just using round numbers so OK< say 500 pounds for aircraft, 150 pounds for pilot and gas, 650 divided by 12 gives power loading of 54 pounds/HP, Do you feel more special now? Cessna 152 is about 15 pounds /HP. Come on man you must be an exceptional pilot to be able to fly something that under powered. joking. So what pre-tell makes you an aviation authority, besides having a big mouth. LOL. When i was 15 , 50 years ago, i soloed in a J-3 piper cub. A very low powered airplane. 1200 pounds /65 HP = 18 pounds /HP. so when i say 54 pounds is beyond bad thats not guessing, thats knowing more then i want to mouth off about like you.

No mention of Sir George Cayley either, who, apart from being responsible for the foundations for the science of aeronautics and the first manned fixed wing flight, he also invented the tensioned wire spoked wheel, better known as the bicycle wheel. Something that allowed the Wright brothers to undertake their experiments.

There was only spark plugs in the first airplane engines, for electricity, with simple wires, and distributor cups. Like a basic car. And a battery. Then, came jet engines... and radar. So, epoch 1 is no computer, pre jet. The readouts are mechanical, or more simple still. Then there's a transition with some radar piston planes, and non-computing jet and rocket aircraft... mechanical computers that get more advanced but basically analouge gyroscopes. Then, everything had radar in it. Epoch 3. The past was compartmentalized, analouge computers. The engines don't matter anymore, at this stage, they all have some form of computational ability, powered by electricity, and radio or radar. We are at epoch 4 now. The engines are usually hybrid electric, or only electric. They run on fusion or fission power, or hyper-advanced types of combustion. The computer is neurologically linked with the user, on a genetic level. Each pilot has one, which is a medical procedure, requiring no incision. But, you could mix and match these epoch. You could have a ww1 biplane with a neurological computer on it, Or a fusion powered magnetoplasmadynamic airplane, with no computer, instead using gyroscopes and analouge gear systems. Probably. Etc.

Good video that is a pleasure to watch. I would however respectfully want to point out that I find the video unbalanced. Half the video addresses early designs that never flew at all or were some kind of balloon, which is no airplane at all. As a result, the further time/history advances, the less informative this video becomes. But still, I learned a thing or two from it!

@@VitorCG1 Brazil has created nothing more than a very poor educational system that brainwashes its citizens with government propaganda. The Wrights flew a controlled powered flight in 1903, it was witnessed, documented, photographed, and published in the media all at that time. That Brazilians refusal to accept that just demonstrates their national ignorance, because they cannot refute the proof so they just pretend it doesn't exist.
