Great store. Great Southern family. When it was sold to the current management if really started to slip in quality and business. The history is so full of great stories. Women in the 60;s would shop ( and lunch) uptown Charlotte. Their packages would be delivered later that day by the store. I heard this was so their husbands wouldn't see them come home carrying all their purchases!

The black and white photo you have of the Belk Hudson building. It’s in Cornelia Georgia. I’m a manager there and it’s still up and running. It’s an iconic store and one of Belks smallest locations.

I do visual at Belk right now and they are a very good store to work for especially in the fact that there is no micromanagement

Worked for Belk. It’s a great starter job, unless you’re planning on going into retail management. Every store is different, but wasn’t impressed with those that were usually promoted by the end. Again, great starter job, but doesn’t have potential, unless you’re going into retail management.

I worked at the Leggett in the Manassas Mall in Manassas, VA in the late 80s.

Grew up in Bluefield, WV with Leggetts that started in downtown and then moved to Mercer Mall. Even though very similar, I always preferred Leggetts. Grew up with the story that a BELK daughter married. Leggett boy and they split the Virginia’s to Leggetts and the Belks to the Carolinas. Regardless, BELK is still the store to beat!

Belk never made it to Missouri but I stopped in one in Tennessee and I've been an online shopper since. That was 20 years ago.

@@ThePodCastDojo Bud I remember that legget name as a kid, before Virginia Center Commons was built. Maybe Regency Square mall or somewhere else had to have one. But the last one that I remember the location was definitely V.C.C. MALL. You've got me curious now lol. Let me Google it and I can refresh my memory lol. 👍🏼

@@ThePodCastDojo I looked around for a min on old locations of legget, and I couldn't come up with any more in the surrounding Richmond area listed. But I know for sure it was. I remember as a kid receiving gifts from my grandparents in legget boxes too, and they were doing there shopping around Richmond. Most locations that just came up where South Boston, Danville and a few others not close to Richmond. If I remember, I'll comment back bud !

I just purchased my first Belk's private label Crown and Ivy olive trimmed ruffle coat and leopard coat from an online seller, who is first hand supplied by the brand's garment factory. Those coats are actually grade A reject items after long stored in the factory's warehouse. But that's ok, those chic classic style items still prove their high quality in fabric and cutting.

I do remember going to Leggett growing up but rarely go to Belk. I remember the former was an amazing place. There's a Belk in Williamsburg and Suffolk.

Its interesting to hear there are more stores in Virginia as I thought they all moved to North Carolina and further south Davin: I'll need to ask my mom about that one since she lives around there

I remember Legget growing up. There was a small one in West Point, Virginia that my grandmother used to visit. Later, I remember the one at Virginia Center Commons. There is a Belk here in Williamsburg. The store is attractive and seems to be doing well, but I rarely find things that interest me. Very interesting company history.
