The History Of Big Boy (Frisch’s) Mascot

Here is the 11th installment of season 2 of my “History Of” series
In this video I go over the history of one of the most iconic advertising mascots of all time, Bob’s Big Boy! Or as I know him here in Kentucky Frisch’s Big Boy!
This video idea goes back to mid 2021 when I was trying to figure out what mascot characters I wanted to do in season 2. Then in the video about Kentucky Kingdom I briefly mentioned big boy and asked if people wanted me to do a video on him, and well the rest is history!
I just want to thank all the websites and people who helped me complete this movie!

Similar to these redecorated Big Boy statues shown from 41:44 to 42:11, Sal & Al's Diner in Amherst, OH has one of their own, although they gave theirs what looks to be a pair of denim overalls. I've driven past it once or twice.

Honestly I find Big Boy to be one of the oddest restaurants every made and isn’t really a character that people really talk about in theme restaurants such as Ronald McDonald, The Burger King, Chuck E. Cheese, etc. I find Big Boy to be more of a relic of the past and that’s really I only see him like that. I have actually ate at Frisch’s before and it was actually two stores. I have ate at the Dixie Highway location and the Shelbyville road location located in the St. Matthews area of Louisville, Kentucky.

When I first saw that big boy costume I almost thought it was a statue that they made when it was Halloween where it was a possessed big boy this video is great I can't wait for season 3 and one is Chuck e cheese going to let their fans by their signs when they're going out of business or location closes you forgot variance and a suit up on how to dress up as big boy a lot of things were missing in this history video but that's fine

Which part of Kentucky are you in? I live in Louisville. I grew up in New Albany, Ind., where the Big Boy outside the Frisch's downtown was well recognized. It was photographed in an ad in my class of 1976 high school yearbook with a student sitting atop his hamburger. That statue was bought by a collector in Orange County, Ind. where it highlighted an outdoor collection of logo kitsch.

It's way old news now, but the Dolly thing made a lot more sense after watching this. Because Big Boy was also the name of the CHARACTER, how the hell would you replace him with a girl? Should've promoted the Dolly chicken sandwich in a less infuriating way.

in my town which is a very small town on georgia we had a shonneys big boy in the 80's but sadly when shonneys was dropping the big boy nammed they closed it down and the big boy statue went to some ones houseaka the former owners and it sat on there front porch but it is no longer there
