For me, mentioning Charlie was like saying "present day" because that's about the time when I started playing Brawl Stars. Charlie was released in the one brawl pass that I had the gems for, and buggy Mico and Kit didn't affect me too much because when I heard that they released, I took a one-month break because I felt like Brawl Stars became broken and boring, so I decided to wait for nerfs.

A bit of info for beta Darryl! Darryl was garbage except for in one mode: Heist. In beta, you used to be able to hit "play again" with randoms even if they had the same brawler. So, what make the 23 tile Darryl super particularly strong (and fun) was doing "double Darryl" heist, where both Darryl's would roll down the entire map at the same time toward the safe and there was pretty much nothing the enemy team could do to stop it. Funnily enough, it is still weaker than what Chuck does today... The Darryl super also allowed for heist innovations. In beta, since the player base was so small, at high ladder (which was around 650 at the time) you could physically watch the meta evolve around you. You would often run into the same team 3 or 4 times in an hour, and so you would need to find a way to beat them. The team to beat was a pam, jessie, Nita team (the equivalent of an unkillable team at the time), and so the strategy we invented to beat them was for our entire team to hide by our own safe (Darryl, Barley, bull), Darryl charges a super while defending the safe, goes across the entire map, and hopefully Darryl can take the safe out quickly enough before nita and jessie get their supers. We managed to go from a losing streak to winning 70% of the time, and darryl barley bull was pretty much an unbeatable comp too, so we ended up as the kingpins of the ladder. I wonder if that still happens nowadays... but with scrims and power league and so many brawler options, there doesnt really exist an unbeatable comp anymore. Beta was a whole different world.

Rosa at release was probably the most broken thing this game ever had. She was my second rank 20 (which was kinda hard to get at the time), my first one was a leon at power level 7 after weeks of hardworking showdown grind. Rosa took me 5 hours in power level 1. Every single gamemode had a broken strategy that could be used, my favorite one was walking into the goal in brawl ball. There was not a single damage dealer that could, after unloading all ammo optimally, prevent her from doing that, even in power level 1. The only way of defending was to either stun her or deal knockback. But because of the reduced number of brawlers at the time, the nonexistence of gadgets and the meta, the only thing that could do that was some very few supers, and some of the brawlers that had them weren’t even that viable in the meta. Not to mention you could abuse your super to kill these stunners then use it again to go into the goal. Rosa was just unstoppable.

When sprout first released, you couldn’t break the wall when you respawned like you can now. So, if the enemy team in brawl ball didn’t have any brawlers that could break walls, you could trap them all in their spawn and endlessly spawn kill them. Ah, good times, good times.

Larry and Lawrie were much better, Rosa may have had her 80% shield which cycled really fast, but L&L had their 100% shield (which also made Larry not be able to get stunned, slowed, etc) which cycled even faster. additionally, they could destroy a heist safe in literally less than 10 seconds with their 2nd star power. and the most important thing: back then, there weren't many brawlers. if Rosa had her 2019 stats in 2024, she would at highest be an low S tier brawler. The fact L&L managed to be so gamebreaking with all these brawlers, abilities, gamemodes, etc just shows how ridiculously broken they were. definitely much better than Rosa at release.

The evolution of invincibility in Brawl Stars: 2019 - Rosa releases with a 80% shield. 2019 - Darryl gets a 90% shield from a star power. 2019 - 8Bit have 2 lifes. 2019 - Bea received a 1 use invincibility shield per match. 2019 - Max received a 3 uses invincibility shield per match. 2021 - Sprout can spawn invincible walls to use as shield. 2022 - Buster releases with a 100% shield in one direction. 2023 - Charlie releases with 4 uses of 3 invincible spiders. 2023 - Kit releases with a 100% invincibility while on top of someone. 2024 - LL realeasea with infinite innvincibility shield 😂

i pushed larry to r25 on the first day of getting him and then stopped using him but now when i try to use him in power league it’s terrible. Every single aspect was nerfed including his range which is the most annoying thing of all. also for cordelius it is much easier for the enemy to kill him in the shadow realm unless his hyper charge is activated which imo shouldn’t have been nerfed to the extent that it was because more often than not his super’s only purpose is to get away from enemies by teleporting a different one.
